Step. Arms go in, push out slowly. Feel the magic thrum through your arms, from the tips of your fingers down to the pads of your toes

The elven wizard had just stepped out of a different sensorium when a bizarre flare of evocation made his detect magic spell return all sorts of odd information. Without hesitation -- NOTHING will stop an Aibghalien whose curiosity is piqued by magic -- he stepped into the sensorium from which the magic had come.
"Moderate evocation on a nonprecisely vertical line," he muttered, then raised his voice to ask directly, "Lightning?"
"Yeah," said Negi, pushing the sweat-matted hair away from his face as he regained his balance on the table. "It's easier for me, and it was a favorite of my fathers."
He regarded the elf with curiosity. He had seen many non-humans and his overall appearance reminded him of Aisha, one of Nodoka's friends. "Hi I'm Negi," he said politely, bowing.
"Aibghalien," the elf replied with a razor-precise bow and a smile. "I'm sorry to intrude, but I sensed the magic in here, and... well, couldn't help myself." His smile turned self-deprecating, but he certainly wasn't apologizing!
"Ah yeah, I was practicing the basics," said Negi with a rub of his head as he hopped off the stone wall. "I haven't actually practiced magic in a while and I've been getting kind of rusty. Been a long time since I was in a fight. That was the Axe of Lightning, a High Ancient spell."
Arika stepped out onto the field, looking very much like she belonged in the scenario regarding her appearance. "If you go slow, you fall into the steps more naturally, thus understanding the basic fully. But if you go too fast, you miss the most important steps, and your forms fall apart before they even come to a complete end."
"True," admitted Negi. She had a sharp eye at least for stance and form. "I'm not used to the Snake movements. When I first learned from Master Ku, I was taught all counters and from there, it developed into a highly aggressive style."

Katara had settled on the bus for a bit, but she hadn't seen Negi yet: she figured he was somewhere in the Sensoriums or in the city with Sasami. She tried for the Sensoriums first though and was rewarded with Negi: it looked like he was practicing martial arts, something that Katara told herself SHE needed to do again.
She watched with vigor, and when the snake exploded into a a thousand coins she clapped her hands enthusiastically.
"Hey Negi! Sorry for staying quiet, I didn't want to bug you. How have you been?"
"Oneesama!" exclaimed Negi, flush with victory at the careful practice turning out alright as he bounded off the side of the building and landed with a soft thump. "I'm doing okay but I'm glad you're here."
He smiled at her and rubbed his head. "It hasn't been the same without you around as often."
Katara flushed with happiness at hearing him call her that again, and she gave him a big hug. "I missed you too Negi-kun! I've been actually trying to get the Outsiders organized."
She didn't add the part about Matt: NO ONE needed to know that.
She was happy to hear that though. "Well, I thought I wouldn't want to step on Asuna or Arika's toes. They don't know me too well, and I figured they'd want to spend some time with you."
"Mou and you never called me to help?" pouted Negi as he was hugged by his sister. "Still though, it's good to see you."
"Well lately it seems that I make mother and Asuna-san worried all the time," admitted Negi. "Considering, well, Devlin and I have been getting into trouble. And then there was the Tyrant and Kamen Rider thing... But still, I loved spending time with you and I'm glad you're here. They can be very... forward, with their aggressive style of parenting."

Though he had a inkling of what she was getting at. Asuna did it to him all the time, telling him to slow down and stop putting things on his head.
