We will all go together when we go [Closed to bomb teams]

Aug 24, 2010 22:42

There were 8 bombs spread around the ship. The teams were assigned. They had their orders, now they had to carry them out. And pray to whatever they held dear that they could disarm them in time.

Tick tock.

This bomb was located in the pod cavern. For the team, it would be easy to sense the closer they came to it. It pulsed with magical energy, and not a pleasant kind at that. With each step they took the air grew thicker, and their bodies were harder and harder to move. At this rate, complete exhaustion would set in soon.

Hoisted by one of his minions, Zetta stared into the pod caverns with a grim frown. "Damn. That's some seriously bad mana."

Two minions crashed to the ground from an unspecified point in the sky. Zetta snapped orders at them without even looking. "Go grab the nearest people you can find. I'll bet I'm not the only one who can sense this."

The pair hurried off to the hall. To his 'leader' minion, the girl carrying him, he added, "Not that I need help to handle this, of course. I need an audience! Hyaaa ha ha ha ha!"

The leader girl, having no real sapience, hadn't questioned any of this anyway, so she had no opinion. That was fine, because Zetta could bluster like this for entirely too long. Though the truth of the matter was that, if he had to go it alone, he'd find a way.

He certainly wasn't the only one to sense the energy that the bomb gave off, the dragon that soon shot out of the central pillar within the massive cavern that made up the pod caves, markings alight with energy. That sense of pulsing energy.

Circling overhead once Celena spotted the others down below, along with a talking book from what she could hear and see, one that contained some power if her sense was to be trusted. One that was intending to disable the device from what she gathered, tilting on wing tip she altered her path, coming in low over the pods wings flaring wide out at the last second to kill her momentum to land gracefully for the speed she had come in at.

Walking up to the pair, "Greetings, I gather you too sense the device ahead," the briefest of nods given to them both as she walked up to and just past the girl and the book she carried, her eyes and markings flaring as she viewed the path ahead in terms of energy and magic. "This could prove..interesting,"

Oh hey, a dragon. No one had told Zetta there were dragons on this ship (but the fact didn't really surprise him, after all). Better yet, this dragon had a crapload of mana. That could really come in handy.

"That's a pretty nasty feel," Zetta said. Amazingly, he's too distracted to ham it up... for the moment. "I can get to it, but I'm pretty sure I'd be out of minions to invite by the time I reached it. Are you dexterous enough to write?" Zetta automatically assumed literacy.

Bomb 2- Angie and Axl kawalskyeffect August 25 2010, 03:43:16 UTC
This bomb was located in the Hangar, and it was completely inaccessible to anyone not coated in nonorganic material. Well, theoretically it was accessible but only if you wanted to melt. Other than that it was a completely normal bomb. Aside from being incredibly complex, even for a highly advanced society.

Axl knew his way around the hangar well enough, so it didn't take him long to locate the bomb.

Leon had told him not to touch it before backup joined him. And he hadn't exactly been planning on it, anyway -- at least not until he had a better idea of where to start and whether it was in his skill range. So instead he started flicking through every kind of scanner he had built-in, pulling as much data as he could.

"...man." His tone was somewhere between admiring and disgusted. "They just don't make 'em like this at home."

And here his backup came, in all her shiny glory. Angie touched down next to Axl, whistling low. "They don't make them like this where I come from, either. I'm not sure I want to see Shiva's world if he comes up with this sort of stuff."

She nodded to her partner. "I'm Angie. Nice to meet you. Wish it could have been under better circumstances." And these were definitely not great circumstances.

"Axl, likewise." He grinned (even if there was a definite tension behind it). "But we can always make some better circumstances later. After we disarm this thing."

Because they would disarm this thing. Axl never planned for failure.

"I'm more firearms than explosives, though, so I'd take your word on where to start over mine."

Bomb 3- Booth, Keyes, and Lash kawalskyeffect August 25 2010, 03:44:00 UTC
There was another bomb located in the pod caverns. This one might seem fairly straightforward, at least until you spotted the guns set up to fire on anything that moved. Not only would they have to watch out for themselves, but also make sure that they didn’t let any of the pods be hit by the gunfire.

Bomb squad had never been Booth's area, but he hoped he had enough army and FBI skills to get through this. He couldn't move right away, and he knew it, not unless he wanted to get shot at. They had to find a way to disarm them, somehow.

And then he got a tiny 5 feet tall afro girl appearing behind them. She looked angry, and her backpack was almost clacking with all of the stuff she had managed to bring, some much more helpful than others.

"Hey," she whispered harshly to the older guys. She didn't know them, but Lash was pretty sure they were the other people Leon told her to meet. There wasn't much times for questions anyway, what with that blasted thing (pun not intended) threatening to blow up the ship.

Her mind was already racing. They had a bomb to disarm and spotted guns. The pods worried her the most of all. Even with her usual disregard that the sacrifice of one or two would outweigh the survival of a million others...if that one or two where people she knew...maybe Hawke was in there. She couldn't take that risk. This would have to be a perfect operation. No second tries.

"What an asshole," she muttered more to herself than Jacob and Bones.

Bomb 4- Dustin, John and Sarah Connor kawalskyeffect August 25 2010, 03:44:17 UTC
There was one very special terminal in Engineering, waiting just for them to hack into it. And then explode. Of course, if they didn’t hack into it, it was going to explode anyway. Good luck getting into its system without letting the command pathways know about it.

The area was fairly quiet, for now. A brief scuffling was the only thing that gave away the intruder upon the premise, a shuffling of fabric, the soft padding of bare feet against squishy floors. The faintest humming, ambiance that blended into the running of consoles and Stacy's pulse and breathing, and a strong red glow that flashed around the corner briefly before its owner pulled it back and pressed himself upon the opposite wall.

Dustin held his breath.

The V-12 FPL was held against his side like a grossly oversized pistol, tank bubbling slowly, veins pulsing between slate-stained metal with silent power. It hadn't done him very much good so far-Dustin had expected to find defenses, automated turrets, attack aliens, whatever, there had to be more than just a terminal and a bomb. Then again, maybe he just needed an excuse to shoot something. There was always that.

But it all seemed too easy. It wasn't sitting right with Dustin at all. Maybe-maybe there were some sensory defenses, an invisible trigger or some sort. Or perhaps ( ... )

Alex said softly over the comm ring so as to barely disturb the silence, "Dustin, Alex a-approaching from l-left." He turned the corner and approached Dustin from the left, as said. He might not have been anywhere near as good as a professional at this whole creeping around places, but the last few months had taught him a few things.

After having Mikel nearly attacking him because of a failure to communicate his location, he learned that you never startle a person on high alert. Even Alice seemed to understand the situation. She sat quietly on his shoulder having refused to let Alex leave her in the room.

Alex slipped along the wall, noting the other teen's uneasy shadow. In this situation, it was probably a good thing to have.

Alex wasn't entirely sure what it was the boy was doing with his cellphone, but he figured it was somehow useful. He connected his new power source into his laptop and powered it up, hoping beyond hope that something would be compatible. Oh, how much easier that would make things. If nothing was, well, ( ... )

The scan picked Alex and his furred companion out first, two overlapping blips of energy and massed body heat on the screen, and thus he was expecting company. What Dustin was not expecting was for his comm ring to alert him afterwards, and the small, meek voice that came over the other end, which did little to reassure him of how events were playing out.

The genius jerked around to see the two--he was expecting two--individuals turn the left corner, and was again let down when he noticed that it was actually a boy and a rat, albeit a boy with a laptop that was clearly aware of what kind of shit was going down here, but a boy nonetheless. Dustin, on the other hand (and despite first appearances), was a short, frail, 28-year-old paranoid mastermind, grizzled and scarred and serious-looking and considerably more prepared to handle himself than he assumed this 'Alex' kid was. At least Dustin had a gun. Alex had a pet ( ... )

There was a bomb in the pod caverns that couldn’t be spotted. They know, however, that it was there and had pinpointed its final location, give or take a few inches.

It might have been small, but the explosion it would create was not. Work fast.

As soon as the call went out, Cowabunga had run to grab his gear, which he carried with him now.

"Alright, any plans for finding this thing?"

Cassie quickly made her way to the bomb. She tried to relax, tried not to think very much about what she had to do or what could go wrong. She could do this. Her dad had done this before. She remembered that. Remembered quite vividly sitting on the couch watching the news, vigorously stirring what would eventually be her hot tuna prune casserole surprise, calling her babysitter a cow (well, bovine) for talking too loud to one of her girlfriends and chewing that stupid bubblegum. She'd been powerless to do anything then but that was how many years ago? Back when they were in California.

Things had changed. She had grown up, learned more. And now she was the only one who could do this or else a lot of people, including her, were going to die.

No pressure. Besides, she'd have help.

Cassie started shrinking. "If you have anything to scan the area that'd work. I'm going to search the area. I'll have a better chance at seeing it while I'm small. We can talk over the comms."

"Oh, I have something, but fair warning?" He said, pulling out his X-Ray Specs. "I've modified them beyond their original parameters, so they can see through other stuff, but these things were developed by a couple of kinda perverted Gnomes. So if you're kind of squeamish about me seeing you in your underwear, you might want to stay out of my line of sight."

He shoved them on, hunting around for the bomb. "Humar?" he ordered his pet. "Go see if you can sniff this thing out just in case we can't pick up on it on our own"
