How do you win a war? Logistics, logistics, logistics!

John had commandeered a humvee from the selection of vehicles Stacy had loaded for them to use on the planet, and was now driving it down the road looking for the sort of stores he needed. Finally he spotted a sporting goods store with a grocer conveniently nearby. Good, he could save some time. Pulling into the parking lot he parked the rather ( Read more... )

As much as Ashley didn't trust that 'Stacy' AI, she also didn't think it was a good idea to stay on the ship. She had heard stories. So she commandeered what looked like an early twenty-first century motorcycle, and just in case also had her hardsuit Phoenix armor over the plantsuit. She hated having to leave her weapons behind... Not even a heavy pistol was allowed.

She spied someone getting out of a vehicle, the make she didn't recognize but it made little difference. He seemed to be doing the same as she: preparing for the Ohm and getting supplies. "Hey."

John glanced over her quickly before responding. He didn't think he recognized her, but there was so much of the crew he hadn't seen yet. A side effect of having been holed up since he got out of the brig. "Hey, I don't think I know you. You a part of the crew?"

It was curt, and not very warm, but then he never was one for charming conversation.

Ashley nods. "Yeah. Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams and you?" The remark was blunt and to the point, but so was Williams. "The whole thing is kind of stupid though, no weapons? That's just begging for these Ohm to show up."

So she was military, that was good. Already sounded like she had more sense than most of the crew. "General John Connor, and I agree with you. I don't know what these people are thinking. They're in a war, and they have this whole planet undefended. With vacationing troops on top of it. It's a nice soft target."

The rank he provided her wasn't strictly accurate, but it was close enough to his actual position that it would do. Normally he wouldn't have even given her his name, but since half the crew seemed to know about him anyway it wouldn't make any difference.
