Tainted Memories

Sometime during the regular comings and goings aboard the meatship, an announcement rings out across all portions of the ship.

||Attention crew,|| Stacy's voice says, ||As significant interest has been shown for it, and enough time has passed since the Nightmare King incident to prevent unnecessary mental issues, the procedure to unlock the memories ( Read more... )

This was unexpected. Of course, Aftran had been too preoccupied with other things to pay close attention to the ship's politics, so it was only natural that she didn't expect it. Still, she was surprised by the announcement.

Surprised, but she felt a sudden determination. She'd been on her way someplace else, but as soon as she heard Stacy's words, she changed course to head to the Sensoriums.

When she entered the room, she didn't sit down right away, at first. Karen had always been afraid of doctor's offices, and right now, she didn't know how much Stacy knew about her. "You said... we can get our memories back?"

((Aftran was on her way to catch the bus to school when she was grabbed.))

||You can. Are you sure you wish to do so?||

"I think so..." Yeah, right; she knew so. "But how'll I know it's really real?" If Stacy could take memories away and restore them, who was to say she couldn't also implant false ones?

Aftran stepped toward the chair as she awaited an answer.

||The memories are genuine. They will be restored in your mind, and the emotions associated with them will be revealed. You will know that they are true from your own feelings.||

||When you are ready, take a seat.||

The announcement came, and Katara had taken several breaths before walking over to the Sensorium. This wasn't going to pretty: in fact, that warning of mental issues that might happen because of what she saw was enough to have her on edge. Despite this, she HAD to know. If her teacher was here, and she bet even if she asked Arha, they would say it was something that she wanted, with or without their approval. She thought about telling Sokka what she was doing, but figured he might talk her out of it: and for what was at stake, she might actually agree.

She stepped through the door and found the white room with the dental chair. She swallowed, then walked toward the chair, mentally preparing herself.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

Wherever you are teacher, be with me.

I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. She sat in the ( ... )

A needle-tipped tendril pricks Katara's arm, and any emotions still in her mind would begin to fuzz-out slightly.

After a few silent moments, the memories begin to creep back into her mind.

Ba Sing Ce. It was a crisp, clear night outside of Iroh's shop.

Everyone else was inside, celebrating their victory over the Fire Nation, but Katara and Aang were outside, sharing a moment alone together.

A moment which was interrupted when thousands of strange, shimmering lights filled the streets of the city, and out of each one, swarms of large, strange creatures started pouring out, spreading out across the city. They poured into every street, hunting and slaughtering anyone they could find, even tearing buildings apart to get to the horrified citizens ( ... )

Katara hadn't expected the memories to come flooding back in this way. She felt that feeling of being with Aang, of finally finding the peace that both of them had sought for so long. The Firelord and Azula were defeated, the world was at peace and Firelord Zuko was ushering a new era with Mai at his side. All of them were starting to come together ( ... )

Samus was not interested in witnessing the last moments of her universe for any sort of closure. She retained many... mixed emotions about its destruction. She was, however, very interested in any information about the Ohm she might gain from this encounter. The hunter, so convinced that she was strong enough to handle anything sent her way, forgot the fact that she was still human, and still subject to those silly things called emotions.

"Stacy," she sat down in the chair, "I'm ready."

There was much Superman didn't know. And he HATED that. Hated the unknown of any sort of opponent or thing. Entering the sensoriums, he took a seat and let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. Was he scared? Maybe. Never felt that way since dealing with Doomsday.

It was time to confront another kind of Doomsday.

"Alright, Stacy. Whenever you're ready."

A needle-tipped tendril--laced with just enough kryptonite to pierce his skin unhindered--pricks Clark's arm, and any emotions still in his mind would begin to fuzz-out slightly.

After a few silent moments, the memories begin to creep back into his mind.

Metropolis. It felt good for Clark, finally being able to patrol the city he called home after being powerless for nearly a year.

Yet even as he flew over the city, keeping a watchful eye over it, the calm that pervaded the day was instantly torn asunder as thousands upon thousands of shimmering lights filled the streets of the city, and literally millions of strange creatures begin to pour out of them, swarming over buildings and slaughtering anything in their path ( ... )

Superman let out a grunt as the memories hit him hard. All of those people. Every single one of them and he let them down. What surprised him the most was that Hank Henshaw, the mad man who took his identity and tried to smear his name for the sake of revenge while he was dead, was trying to stop these beasts, too.

"I guess when all is on the line, old grudges mean nothing..." he said.

Struggling to his feet, he began to make his way out. He needed to sleep this off.

"Never again. What I saw here never happens again."

Memories. More damnable memories that he lost. More that he wants back so he can feel SOME sort of wholeness. He didn't want Alessa to be troubled (that, or she'd already would figure out what's going on) so he didn't bother to poke her in any way.

Heading into the room, he flipped himself over to the chair and sat down, arms crossed.

"Let's get this over with." Shadow growled.

A needle-tipped tendril pricks Shadow's arm, and any emotions still in his mind would begin to fuzz-out slightly.

After a few silent moments, the memories begin to creep back into his mind.

Having just returned to Earth from defeating the Black Arms race, Shadow, Sonic and the others were ready to head home and celebrate their victory.

But it was not to be.

As soon as they arrived, they saw that the city they were in was being consumed by flames, and millions of large, strange creatures were swarming over the buildings, slaughtering everything in their path ( ... )
