The place I know best is in my head

In time, the factory had become too small, so Alessa had been forced to make adjustments. It hadn't been easy, but then she'd had a lot of time to figure out how she could stretch her space and make it bigger without setting off Stacy in the first place. In effect, all she needed was more to add: an abandoned lot, some overgrown vines, enough ( Read more... )

Fletcher had just been taking a walk, looking about the city some more. He was getting acquainted with its layout, but there was still a lot he had to explore. But somehow, it seemed, he'd gotten lost.

Was this place still on board Stacy?

Once he'd realized that going any further would be a bad idea, Fletcher stopped in place. He looked around, apprehension growing within him; but it couldn't be anything dangerous, could it? The Nightmare King had been defeated, and surely people would have been talking if there was something else of that nature around...

"Hello?" he called out. If there was someone else here, he'd know for sure it was safe.

Alessa didn't have to look up to know who was calling out. She'd recognized the boy well enough to know the quavering tone. She wasn't about to get up for the moment though, enjoying the swinging, but she also didn't want Fletcher to go any farther into her abyss: he could get lost or even hurt.

"Follow my voice to the playground," Alessa called, her voice reverberating, echoing as if the sound waves reflected back, a way for Alessa to guide him toward her voice. "Just don't stray into the fog."

That was Alessa's voice. Somehow, it sent a chill down the boy's spine. She'd been nothing but nice to him, so he felt a little guilty for that apprehension he felt.

Follow her voice. He wasn't sure which way to go, so that seemed the best option. That echoing, that was unnerving too. But he did as she said, and managed to find the playground -- just as creepy as the rest of all this.

"Alessa?" he said simply, looking about in worry.

Alessa waited until she caught sight of the boy, and decided she could do away with a bit of the menace...a LITTLE bit, anyway. The money bars started to unwind themselves, no longer crafting its metal to sharp, pointy parts, the see-saws moaned as the wood started to form back together, and now the slide started to straighten as if it were correcting a crooked spine. The sun started to let in a little bit, so now it looked more like an early morning than a very foggy, scary one. Alessa also reverted to her human form: while she was sharp with Fletcher, she would not be unkind.

The vine parted ways, allowing the boy to enter the clearing easily. "It's me," she said, swinging again. "Have you had any trouble?"

"Not something I'd associate with a little girl, but I guess for someone like you, it's fitting," Shadow Link said, leaning against one of the bars holding up the swing, looking around. He stuck to the more isolated areas of the City when he was wandering around. Usually there were more shadows. Upon seeing this place, he had to take a look around.

He was hardly one to be scared away from the spookiness. The fact the fog made it hard for true, bright light to appear in the area was really a bonus and all the more reason to take a look around.

"I'm not a little girl, so what you say would be right," Alessa answered. "My former dwelling place was nice enough, but its a bit too bright for my tastes, and I'm not one for simply lying around to wait for something to do. That makes me restless, and for a demon that is not a good thing. So I created a replica of my home within the city, enough on the outskirts so no one would complain and where I could dwell and even recover from wounds."

An inhuman screech filled the air, and Alessa gave a bit of a scary smile. "Well, and create those, if I needed assistance on the ship."

"With how big the city is, it's not hard to avoid this place," Shadow Link said. He had just found black out curtains for his room in the Outsider Headquarters for his own darkness. He could understand wanting the perfect place to recover.

The screech though? That was a bit unexpected and he looked up. "So, you're the type of demon who can make minions?"

"I designed it to be that way," Alessa said. "I did not want a place where people would be snooping around to bother me, but I wanted a place where I could reflect if needed. As you can see, it comes in handy. I like the quiet."

She shrugged. "Not as many as I usually have, but I had to lose a few during the Nightmare King fiasco. I was heavily injured, so they came to my aid."

It was abandoned, it was creepy looking, it was on the edge of the city, away from everything else; it practically had 'KEEP OUT' written across it in letters that were a mile high. Of course Haley had to go exploring in it; of course she did. If something said 'DON'T TOUCH', Haley's first reaction was to want to touch. It wasn't a very good attitude to have aboard Stacy, but Haley hadn't been here long enough yet to learn better.

She was also a bit of a horror film buff, though she didn't play any video games, and this, this was definitely something straight out of a horror setting. Course, that stuff was just in movies, wasn't it? None of it was actually real. Still, this seemed so real it was pretty fricking sweet.

"Hello?" she shad to call out, snickering a little as she did so. "Anyone there?"

Alessa was actually a little intrigued. She didn't know this voice: why would a new person come here? She was used to the normal skittish reactions of humans: fog, warped metal and the inability to see clearly always seemed to be the sort of thing that caused them to go away, not come further unless they were looking for something in particular, like when Rose lost Sharon when she went into Silent Hill.

She stopped swinging when she heard the voice. The snickering annoyed her: what was funny. "Yes," she replied. "Who are you?"

"Dude!" Haley paused in surprise, then started heading for the voice. "I didn't actually expect anyone to be here- this place is so sweet, it's like straight out of a horror movie ..."

And then she got a look at who she was actually talking to, and stopped. "And if this were a horror movie, you would be the monster disguised as the little girl who's about to take my head of," she noted with a laugh. "Good thing this isn't a movie, huh? Hey kid, I'm Haley. Mind if I-?" Without waiting for an answer, Haley flopped onto the swing set next to Alessa. She looked around the ruined playground with interest. "Wicked."

Alessa looked at her blankly. Who WAS this person, and what did that mean, "dood?" Was it some sort of obscenity that she was unaware of? Humans were constantly changing and adding the kind of things they should not say but said anyway. And why would she find a place like this "sweet?"

In her description, Alessa shrugged. "I've been called that and worse. But I wouldn't take your head off, even if the way you talk is really strange and your manner is wholly odd. Of course, we only just met, so who knows?"

Give her that food for thought.

But she didn't mind the company and swung, her legs swinging freely. "Its my domain, but I'm glad you approve. My name is Alessa."

Well, there was another vampire yet, one that had no intention of refusing her invitation. Of course, Evangeline's conviction that she was the greater (greatest), more to-be-feared darkness on the ship might grate worse, if it came to be displayed full-force ( ... )

Alessa knew who it was: she had felt the presence of the familiar in that girl, much more so than any of the other vampires or creatures on this ship. Though Alessa would never conceded to being the weaker, she had a natural respect for someone who had darkness in them and did not succumb to rubbing her hands together and plotting for that once chance to rule the ship: it was such a waste. Here, in the darkness, Alessa was free to have her own thoughts, make her own destiny, and if that including dooming the ship, it would only be when she understood how to make that happen. For now, the idea of doing it was stupid, and anyone who thought it was a good idea was equally foolish ( ... )

"Don't get many social calls, I take it." Evangeline grinned. She'd spent most of her life seeking nothing but isolation, an end to the war against all that seemed an inevitable result of her mere exposure to the light, but once she'd attained it she'd come to value her rare visitors after a fashion, so long as they remained rare. Even the most common type that came looking to take her head. How similar might the girl on the swing be?

"Your pets?" She asked of the voices.

"Not especially," Alessa said. This was one of the few moments where she wasn't having to make herself not restless, where she didn't have to fill in the time with making monsters, plotting her reason for being on the ship or having forlorn thoughts of the true Alessa, at one with Sharon and now in the great void of oblivion while she remained here. On the swing, she relished the place that was her new home, and though alone, was quietly pleased with it.

"The ones that guard this space and me," Alessa said. "They are the monster incarnations of the place that was Silent hill."
