And then she slid out of the pod with a disgusting wet schlorp noise and struggled to climb to her feet. Trudy was no stranger to waking up from stasis - she'd been put in cold sleep on her way to Pandora, and she'd been back and forth to the outposts at Jupiter in cold sleep a few times. The disorientation, the gnawing hunger, the stiffness in her limbs - those were all normal, and she immediately started going through the muscle exercises that would make her limber and fighting-able faster.
At the same time, she was taking stock. No service rifle. No uniform. Not even a goddamn radio- where the hell...?
"Great," she said, getting a better look at herself. "The afterlife is sticky alien glop."

Aftran coughed and shook her goop-soaked hair out of her face as she got to her feet. She looked about, trying to keep the fear she herself was feeling off of her host's face. She caught sight of a human woman -- she seemed to be human anyway -- and decided it was best to act the part she looked. For now, anyway.
"Excuse me..."

For another, there was the voice... the voice in her head which... Usually when there are voices in your head it's a sign you've either been at the tequila too long or it's time to go on leave for a long time.
As she was taking stock, and trying not to get too annoyed at the naked part, she heard a small voice and looked down.
A kid.
Great.
"Yeah? Are you looking for your mom or something?"

And then came the voice. ||You are here.|| It was a voice and not a voice, in her head and yet distinctly different from the thoughtspeak she'd become used to when she'd worked in Visser Three's personal guard. This was not the doing of Yeerks, but the Andalites didn't seem to be behind this either.
And so Aftran would continue to be "Karen" for now. "I'm scared, lady."

"If you have half a chance of successful negotiation with the Ka'a'lim, you're going to need someone with the linguistic skills I possess. I can pick apart a new language in less time than it would take you to either talk or shoot your way out of that bar. I'm going on this mission." Uhura folded her arms and leaned back against the bulkhead, a PADD dangling from her fingertips as she fixed her eyes on Kirk's face.
He had that look on his face. The one that said something smartass was coming. She held up a hand.
"Would you like to explain to the Admiralty exactly how you started a war by not listening to your Communications officer, and do so from the inside of a brig on some alien planet, or would you like actually like to enjoy your next shore leave?" That came with a smile. Point made.
"Good point," Kirk said. "You do the talking."
Heat.
"Enterprise, we are on an intercept course with Landria Outpost Seven. We are picking up unusual electrical activity planetside, please advise," came the voice of Ensign ( ... )

Of course, he had no idea that she could understand him, thanks to the magic of Stacy.

"You want a fight?" Uhura asked, crossing her arms as if that was going to provide her with some cover. It really didn't.

"You are not armed and female. No honor in that."
Well, there was honor in killing females, provided they weren't pregnant or sick. And had a weapon.

Slowly, Zhiai'kahn pulled herself upright, staring around the cavernous space. She was confused. The climate felt very much like her tropical home, but it did not look right in any way. She made an attempt to walk, when a sound crashed through her new world. A pair of hands went to her ears, trying and failing to shut out the sound. A strong gust of wind followed, and she dug her claws into the fleshy ground to keep from being thrown away by the force.
The noise and wind stopped, and she loosened her grip on the ground. "What... what in the holy eight arms of the Gods was that?" She said aloud.

"Sorry..." muttered the teenager, trying to curl up into a ball, holding back tears.
"Sheesh." Looking over, the small ermine blinked at the fluffy thing near them and waved a forepaw. "Oi! You okay there? Nothing hurt or broken?"

"I... am not sure," she slowly said in response to the question. "Though I have suspicions that I am going through a dream, or hallucinating in some form."

If Mei-Xing is still viewing in that same astral view, she may find that amongst the chaos and negative energy, the dragon before her is something of a beacon of life and energy.
Watching her for a moment before finally speaking, a kind enough tone stepping slowly closer "Calm yourself, letting panic take you will do no help.."

When she finally looks up, her view of the physical world hasn't improved much. No, there's a dragon right there. She lets out another terrified shriek, and moves on to her rear, skittering backwards until her back touches her newly vacated pod.
No, she's not exactly in the calming zone right now.

"My apologies, I did not wish to startle you, nor do I mean you any harm," She would try explaining calmly and honestly.
