Kang already had a tankard of cactus juice in hand, and was leaning against the bar, watching everyone else. The crowd may have been different from what the tavern had typically seen before, but it felt good to see full tables and to hear laughter. They all needed this.

He still had bandages on his wing membrane, thigh, and the end of his tail, and a few scrapes and cuts, but the injuries were healing up nicely and didn't bother him much anymore.

Kang took the tankard, and returned with refills for both of them, "Here. Tell me what you think."

Kawalsky took a sip gulp. "Hey! Not bad! It's actually better than the ale."

"Told you. Had a commander offer the wood from his troops' barracks for more of this stuff," Kang laughed.

"And I can see why. Thanks, Kang. You're a real pal." He thumped Kang on the back with his palm.

Well, yeah. He was kind of drunk.

Obviously. As long as Kawalsky didn't thump his bad wing, it was all good.

"Slith needs to wake his ass up, so that someone on this ship can make more when we have the materials."

"You wanted to see me, sir?" asked a voice struggling to be heard over the din.

There was Billy, as promised, looking out at the partying crew around them. The young engineer had yet to join a table, but he might want to. Much as he was loath to admit it, Kang might be right---it was relaxing to listen to the others tell their stories and have a good time.

"No one's called me sir in years, Billy. I just wanted you to come relax for a while. Everyone needs this," Kang grinned. Pointing at the barrels, he asked, "You drink?"

Billy's head bobs in response. "Kang, then. Uh...no, I don't drink. I prefer to avoid injesting substances that alter the brain's normal functioning."

Billy leaned back, taking in the sights of the ceiling. "I'm amazed that this building survived."

Kang shrugged. More for everyone else, then. At least Billy had shown up to socialize, instead of holing himself up in Engineering to work.

The ceiling was just that: a ceiling. Nodding, he took a drink from his tankard, "Luck, really. I'm glad that it did. A lot of hard work was put into it, and quite a few good memories were made." He smiled, glancing at the mural along one of the walls. "I don't even want to think about what Mak's reaction would be to seeing his painting destroyed."

"One of your friends was a painter?" Billy was quite curious. He had always liked art, even if he'd never had a talent for producing it.

Now that his mind was quiet, he could listen to the bustling atmosphere. People were laughing, yelling, cheering as if they hadn't all been put through the ringer just a short while ago. It amazed him that they could recover so quickly.

"He was in my regiment. He picked it up several years ago, and proved to be quite good at it," Kang nodded.

"That's right, you're a commander," nodded Billy. "The focus wasn't always on combat, then?"

"Was a commander," Kang reminded him. "We had little else to do in the valley."

Once whatever perceived obligation Russel had thought he had in Medbay was resolved, he took a break, intending to come down to Kang's party to give him that dagger back.

"Well, you didn't explode," Russel said, sliding into a stool beside him. "Sounds like a win in my book." He smirked up at the draconian, and proffered the dagger, still on its makeshift strap. The kid looked like he still hadn't gotten any rest, physically anyway. Fletcher had gotten a nap, though, and his lungs were clearer.

"I didn't, fortunately," Kang shrugged, grinning. "You look like hell, Russel."

He took the dagger and put it back on his belt, "I'm guessing Fletcher's alright. Did he come with you?"
