Someday, Steve vowed, he would come out of a major crisis without needing to be thrown in isolation afterwards. That was his next goal. But the moment he and Miku dragged each other to medical after things had quieted down and the doctors in the know saw him with open wounds, he'd been shoved off and thrown in contagion containment within minutes ( Read more... )

Grace was tired, but what else was new? Unfortunately, she also didn't have any cigarettes to take the edge off. Instead, she'd managed to wrangle some real coffee from the crew lounge. She sipped at her mug and glanced down at her omnicomm. Steve Burnside in isolation. Apparently his blood caught fire when exposed to the air. That was supposedly biologically impossible, but so were living planetary networks. She tapped on the bubble, peering at him curiously. "Steve? I'm Grace. How are you doing in there?"

It wasn't her area of expertise, but she could at least keep the man company for a little while.

Steve glanced up outside of the bubble and eyed the new woman a little bit suspiciously, but he managed to keep it hidden behind the hair hanging mostly in his face. Being a teenager did have its advantages sometimes.

"I'm okay," he said, brushing that hair away and feigning a neutral look. "Bored. But I feel better and all."

"Glad to hear it. I'm sorry to say I'm not a medical doctor, but I do know my biology and chemistry...." She checked the read-outs and glanced up. "What exactly are you being quarantined for? Refresh my memory."

He eyed her again, this time unable to hide a little bit of apprehension.

"Uh," he hesitated for a moment, "It's... it's not anything really important. You should ask Dr. Sera."

Quarantine cells? Immune to ninjas? Why never.

Uncle McNinja has come to visit Steve, and he has brought him some thoroughly disinfected books on electronic chips so that he won't be too terribly bored in Quarantine.

He drops from the ceiling with a smile, lab coat flapping a little as he lands. There might be a paper mask over his regular mask, but don't mind that.

"Hey there, how're you holding up?"

And of course, Steve jumped about three feet in the air at the sound of somebody showing up inside what he was assured was a very secure cell.

"Holy shit!" he yelped out reflexively-- then he stared in wonderment at McNinja for a moment before finally relaxing.

"I'm... I'm okay," he said. "... are you supposed to be in here?"

"Probably not but nobody's gonna come in here to drag me out so..." he shrugged, putting on a good natured smile that was seen better in his eyes that on his face.

He held out the little data chips for the omnicom.

"I brought you some books."

"It's not supposed to be contagious through the air anyway," Steve rationalized. Which made him kind of annoyed when he thought about it too much, because-- come on, did he really have to stay in here because he had open wounds? But better to be safe than sorry, he supposed.

He took the data chips and looked at them in his hand for a moment, then glanced back up at McNinja and had trouble hiding the awkward smile on his face. "Thanks," he said. "That was... really, really nice of you."

Billy had heard about what had happened to Steve and had nearly panicked. Steve was one of his friends, and he didn't want to see him hurt. He knew that Steve was dangerous, but it didn't mean anything! He was in control, or well at least Billy wanted to believe that.

So this is why Billy is running into the area like his own head was on fire, looking for Steve. When he sees him, nearly perfectly healthy (minus the bandages), he falls to the ground and glares at the boy in the bubble. Just glares.

Steve looked up a bit startled as Billy hit the ground outside the cell. He stared at his friend for a moment and then tilted his head to the side a bit curiously.

"Uh... hey, Billy," he said. "Are you okay?"

"I was freaking worried about you!" He shakes his head a bit and is still glaring. "And here you are completely fine."

"Well I'm not fine," Steve replied, standing up and walking over towards the bubble so they could at least have a proper conversation. "Or else I wouldn't be in here."

He kept telling himself that, anyway, to keep from getting too annoyed at the situation. "What did you think happened?"

Several hours later, Miku peeked her head inside the containment room and hurried over to Steve's door. She looked... better than when they last parted (though... her neck bandage looked a little more like a scarf). She'd remembered to rest, remembered to dry her hair thoroughly before pinning it up again.

Sure, she felt a little off, and a bit stiff and sore even after resting, but Miku was bent on seeing Steve again. Just to confirm that he really was going to be okay with her own two eyes. She tapped on the bubble and smiled, "Hi."

As soon as Steve noticed who it was visiting him, he predictably turned beet red and had to speak through the idiotically sheepish grin on his face. Here he is, Miku, your shirtless bubble-boyfriend with the bandages all over him!

"Hi," he said back, waving with a few fingers. He stared stupidly at her for a moment and then stepped up closer to the bubble so they could at least pretend this was a normal conversation. Steve and Miku did a lot of pretending to be normal, he was starting to notice. "Are you okay?"

And, tit for tat, Miku turned a nice shade of cherry tomato in reply, "I'm alright." Bandaged, sore, still a bit tired, but alright. Miku poked at the bubble he was being kept in experimentally, and firmly looking at his face instead at his shirtlessness.

There was an urn, somewhere, with ashes that were just spinning inside it, she was certain. "What about you? You'll be coming out soon, right?" Miku sounded hopeful, if a little concerned. God help him if he said no.

He set one of his hands against the bubble to lean on it. No, of course he hadn't spent the entire first hour he was awake in here testing out the thing-- sometimes it was flexible and rubbery and other times it hardened into something like glass. He kind of wished he had been less groggy when they put him inside, since he didn't remember how he got in, really.

"I hope so," Steve said. "They said everything's stable, just... higher than normal. As soon as the wounds close up Dr. Sera said he'd let me out."

Claire would've been here directly to see Steve, but she needed to take care of Sherry first, and had forced herself to catch a few hours of sleep. Still, after that, she came right down to the contagion lab, and made her way back to where Steve was being kept. She slowly approached the bubble, a slight smile on her face although there was obvious concern in her eyes.

"Hey, Steve."

Steve had been trying to catch a little sleep himself, but sat up when he heard his name called-- and immediately folded his arms over his bare chest as soon as he realized who it was. It wasn't as though Claire hadn't seen him shirtless (or worse) before, but it was still the principle of the thing, dammit.

"Claire! You're okay!" He stood up and rushed over towards the bubble, grinning awkwardly. "God, everything went to hell-- I was really worried about you. Are you okay?"

She couldn't help but smile a little at his awkwardness, nodding her head.

"I'm fine. You really didn't need to worry." And she was, really. A little banged around, a few band aids stuck to her in places where she'd gotten nicked by flying debris or scratched by something that had gotten too close, but nothing major. Beyond, of course, the large bandage still wrapped around the mess of an injury the dream of her brother had made on her forearm shortly before everything had literally gone to hell. She couldn't remember if Steve had seen that, or not.

"You, on the other hand..." She tilted her head, stepping a little closer to the bubble. "How're you doing?"

Of course Steve needed to worry. Claire was a Redfield. He had spent two whole days with her in a crisis. Where she went, explosions followed.

"I'm okay, really!" he said. "This happened before, earlier this week, and then after they got me out of the nightmare it, uh... got worse." He stepped up close to the bubble and carefully unwrapped the bandage on his arm, lowering it down so she could see what was left of the ugly rash. It was scabbing over, still greenish in color and looked inflamed and tender, but it was vastly better than it had been right in the thick of things and it had stopped bleeding.

"It's just new. And really gross. So they were afraid of what I was gonna do."
