Downtime [open]

As many of the tech brigade had learned at some point or other, there was only so long that Stacy was willing to let them work before forcing a compulsory break, and Ahava was no exception. Even trying to reason that sleeping, considering the current circumstances, wasn't exactly restful any more didn't make a difference, so the senior scientist ( Read more... )

"You know, you can eat in the Sensoriums if you have trouble getting that down."

Yes, that was an empty chair speaking.

"I could," Ahava agreed. "But it doesn't really bother me that much. Not to mention I thought I'd see if any of the newcomers might need that suggestion more than me if they turned up here. The ship can be pretty confusing when you first arrive."

She smiled at the apparently empty air. "So what can I do for Invisible Kid today?"

"True. Personally, I just wanted a little time alone. No one wants to spend much time in here."

Lyle appears in such a way that you might momentarily wonder if you had just missed him before.

"I don't suppose you can give me any meditation advice? I don't seem to be very good at it."

"Meditation advice?" Ahava snorted. "What makes you think I'm any better at that? Normally I'm more of a 'work until I pass out' type."

Idly toying with the slop (which she agreed wasn't particularly motivating her to eat it), she watched the young man curiously. "Why are you after alone time anyway? Dreams bothering you?"

Duncan wasn't feeling especially enthusiastic about his tray of sludge, although food was food and not to be turned down. It helped that he had waited until his hunger was strong enough to overcome such factors as... complete lack of sensory appeal.

He scanned the room for someone to eat with, and finally approached a friendly looking woman near the doorway. "Hello, would you mind if I sat here?"

Ahava directed a smile up at the newcomer. "Help yourself," she answered, indicating a chair. She didn't think she'd met the young man before, but that didn't necessarily mean much with how large the crew was. "I'm Doctor Ahava Yewande, by the way," she said. "And you are?"

"Duncan Idaho." He dipped his head in greeting, returning the smile. "Ah, thank you. It's a pleasure to meet you, Doctor."

He chose the seat across from Ahava and contemplated the friendliness of his fellow passengers and which end of the sludge to begin on. (The closer one.)

"Just Ahava is fine. There's quite a few different doctors and such around the place, I don't think the title really means that much." She toyed around with her own plate of sludge for a moment, watching the young man opposite curiously.

"So, are you new to Stacy, Duncan? Or have we just missed meeting each other?"

Nura is feeling a little bubbly. Maybe it is because she's just handled one of her biggest concerns with relative ease, or that she has everything right on track now. She has decided to stop putting off meal-time and come down to the mess hall. The food doesn't look apetizing (did that glop pop an eye at her?) but food was sustenance, and Nura needs sustenance right now.

She grabs a tray, a plate, orders her food, and then looks for a place to sit. A quick vision directs her to Ahava, who she greets with a warm smile. "Hello, Ahava. How are you this evening? Food good?" She sits down.

"Is it ever good?" Ahava responded dryly. However, her attention is suddenly focussed on the pale-haired woman opposite her, and it's obvious that her interest is piqued. "I don't think we've met, have we?" she asked carefully.

Nura shakes her head. "Sorry. I'm Nura Nal-Dox, but the Legion knows me as Dream Girl; precog." She pauses. "Of Earth-Prime." She takes her fork and digs it into the glop.

"A precog?" Ahava asked, even more interested by that revelation. "So you can see the future? I don't suppose you've seen anything about us leaving, have you?"

Though some time had passed Muraki felt like he had accomplished very little. Getting settled into an entirely foreign environment was difficult enough without the bizarre dreams (and various tentacles in the waking world), but he adjusted like everyone else on the ship. What else could he do, after all?

Oh. Of course. Make friends.

"Would you mind some company?"

Ahava glanced up at the newcomer and smiled pleasantly. "Not at all," she answered. Indicating the seat opposite, she continued. "Take a seat, Mr...?"

He set his tray down and claimed a seat across from the woman.

"Muraki." He replied, returning the smile with a polite nod of his own.

"It's nice to meet you, Muraki," Ahava answered politely. "I'm Ahava. Doctor Ahava Yewande, if you want to get technical about it, but Ahava is fine. Are you knew to Stacy?"
