Reconnaissance was both a duty to her captain, and a way for Mulan to satisfy her burning curiosity about the new world that fate had brought her to. And so the young Chinese soldier skittered through Stacy's halls, quietly, purposefully, and above all, curiously ( Read more... )

Samus was patrolling the hallways, usually one of the more low key part of her security duties. She occasionally ran into other crew members, though she tended not to bother them as long as they weren't doing anything suspicious. However this... young boy? Girl? (She couldn't really tell) Caught her eye, mostly due to the fact that he was carrying a bow and a sword. She considered those to be a rather primitive weapon and found it quite odd.

"Hello," she gave a professional sort of sounding greeting.

The professional greeting is met with silence. Mulan is too busy gaping to respond. What IS that? What IS it? It's huge and shiny and not like any spirit she's been instructed to expect! It's like a person made of metal!

"Hello!" she squeaks at length, the Chinese of her greeting made legible by the translation engines. "I greet you, honorable . . ." she looks confused, but tries - "spirit?"

The voice, for the record, is no help. This could be a boy too young for his voice to have broken, or a girl whose register is soft and low.

"Spirit?" Samus was confused. "I am not a spirit. My name is Samus Aran."

"Sorry, it's just . . . I've never seen anything like you before." Mulan stares in unabashed fascination before remembering her manners and snapping to soldierly attention. "Fa Mulan, soldier of the Imperial Chinese Army. I am honored to meet you, Samus Aran."

Mai had finally bothered to put her hair up again (it'd taken her a while, but she was used to it), but there weren't any suitable robes aboard. So, she'd settled for loose jeans (the ones that seemed built for women on that planet seemed horribly tight) cinched to her waist by a leather belt and a very loose long-sleeved blouse (all the better to hid her throwing knives). It was still a complete surprise to her to come around a corner and be face to face with a young man who wouldn't be out of place in the Fire Nation capital. She arched a brow in a quiet, questioning manner.

Mai presents a much more familiar-seeming face. Mulan bows her head.

"Hello." The other young woman's manner of clothing is strange, but less strange than the plantsuits are. "Fa Mulan, of the Imperial Army of China."

Mai nodded politely.

"Mai... of the Fire Nation," she adds, looking Mulan over, "...what's China?"

"Uhh -"

This is not a question Mulan ever expected to hear.

So she counters with one of her own!

"What's the Fire Nation?"

On his way to the mess hall, Kang was surpised to see someone up ahead with a weapon out, as if expecting trouble. At first glance, the human looked androgynous, but on further inspection (i.e. scent), she proved to be female.

Curiously, and with a great deal of caution, he approached with his hands up to show that he meant no harm, "You seem worried about something, ma'am." He'd never seen anything quite like her armor, though it seemed to be around the same level as his.

Her reaction is probably not what Kang expected, as the soldier immediately drops her bow and prostrates herself on the ground before him.

"Honorable spirit! Forgive my intrusion. My curiosity lead me to explore - is this your home?"

Kang blinked. And blinked again.

What the hell?

"...ma'am, I think you have me mistaken for something else," he began, wings rustling uncomfortable. "Please, stand back up."

Uh.

". . . you're not a spirit either?" she's learning! "But you look like -" Like a dragon and a man in one body. Surely that's pretty spiritual.

Lyle is exploring the ship himself, since knowing the ship's layout might be vital someday. When he hears Mulan coming, he turns invisible and stands aside. He relaxes once he sees her, but due to the bow, he waits until she's passed to turn himself visible again. He makes soft footstep noises as though he's walking up, then stops some ways behind her.

"Looking for anything in particular?

She whirls around at the sound of footsteps.

"Hello." Just a boy, another foreigner, but not threatening. "I am doing reconnaissance."

"I thought this was all mapped out?" He approaches her, hands in his pockets. "Do you want company?"

He adds, "I'm Lyle Norg, by the way.

"I would like to see the maps, if you know where they are." She hadn't heard about those. Shang will be happy to have them. Mulan knows how he loves his maps.

"Fa Mulan. It is an honor to meet you, Lyle Norg."

Like Mulan, Daja was also trying to get used to this strange new place. She had been walking the halls with her Trader staff for protection and a steady support (she was sure all this...squishness...couldn't be entirely stable), trying to memorise the layout.

She blinked when she saw the armoured warrior coming in the opposite direction - but her surprise soon turned to curiosity. She hadn't seen armour like that before!

Daja stopped and leaned on her staff. "Good day," she said politely. Perhaps, if Daja could just talk to - him? - a little while, the warrior might let her take a closer look at their armour...

This newcomer is rather less surprising than the metal woman. Still strange looking - Mulan has never seen a person with skin or hair like that - but comfortingly human, for a foreign devil.

"Hello!" she speaks in Chinese, but the translation engine makes her speech legible to those who don't share the language. She bows, just nodding her head to the girl.

Daja bowed in return, in the Trader style - from the hips. "I'm Daja Kisubo. It's nice to meet you." She paused - she didn't want to seem to forward with her curiosity, but the warrior didn't seem too busy to talk. And her professional curiosity was piqued.

"I'm sorry if this is rude but...I was just admiring your armour. I've never seen a style like it before."

She beams with pride. "Thank you. It was my father's." Now HER curiosity is piqued. "Are you an armorer?"
