Command Meeting: Debriefing and Ideas

Nov 17, 2009 04:01

Picard was sitting in the Sensorium, in a recreation of one of the Enterprie E's conference rooms. It was uncommon for him to initiate a staff meeting, but he felt the ideas he had and the ideas he'd gained from his conversation with Lex Luthor needed to be addressed. Besides, a debriefing was overdue, and the captain felt it important to address ( Read more... )

It seemed quite unlike Luis to have so readily taken up the mantle of responsibility that his Chief of Science position offered-- though especially since the incident, he seemed to have thrown himself headfirst into his job. It didn't hurt that the man ate, slept and breathed science. Occasionally he even forgot to eat and sleep.

"Buenos dias, Capitan," he said cheerfully. He wore his glasses and carried with him an absolutely massive stack of paper, notes and computer printouts, and when he set them down at the table he sort of accidentally claimed a three-chair area for himself while he worked on getting them in order.

Of course Jean's there. Like she'd ever miss a Command Meeting. She nods her head to Luis as she claims a set at the conference table, setting her own neat pile of notes and files in front of her before turning to offer a greeting to Picard. "Hello Captain."

Kirk files in, cup of coffee in hand and finds himself a seat next to Picard. He offers him and everyone else present a nod in greeting, tapping his own datapad lightly against the table.

The Chief arrives and, after a split second calculation involving his own suited weight and the load bearing capacities of most chairs, elects to stand. His armor's clean now and most of the scratches and dings he got in the maze have been smoothed and painted over, but the more significant old plasma scores are there. Too big for him to do anything meaningful with them.

"Sirs," he says, naturally settling into a place where he can watch everyone and the door at once. Old habit.

There's a lot to be discussed about what happened and what exactly went wrong.

As everyone finally settled in, Kirk turned to Jaime with a nod, "Mister Reyes, I'd like to hear about the mission in your own words, if you don't mind."

Kirk nods grimly, "All right. Continue, please. What happened afterward?"

There would be time for questions later.

What does the Command Crew think of the Daligig and what they revealed? How far should they be willing to go to fight the Ohm?

"Then we shall move on," Picard said. Cycling through the notes on his datapad, he brought up the image of the Daligig on the large monitor screen behind him. There was no voice at the moment, but everyone knew what the message was; they had all heard it. The captain's expression was dead serious as he set the datapad down once again ( ... )

"The problem," Leon started, "is that everything we've been told, we have, at best, circumstantial evidence that backs it up. But we also don't have anything that proves that they're lying.

"Right now, I'm not sure we have much choice but to go along with this. But we also need to find out more about both the Daligig and the Ohm as we go along. At the very least, we should get more in the way of concrete evidence before we go and declare war on a species the crew only encountered once."

Nathan added, "I agree on the evidence. Right now we don't have much more than hearsay for all of this. Stacy's more on top of her game at least apparently. I don't think anybody's had luck finding anything in the Media Library about finding much more about the Ohm though."

He then pointed out, "However, since we got more control over the ship again, we can make them a priority for other missions. Plus, there might still be more clues somewhere on board. We need to check with the rest of the crew, see if they found anything that could point back to them."

Crew Organization and Cohesiveness / Ship Government cityship November 18 2009, 07:04:24 UTC
Even though they managed to overcome it this time, the lack of crew cohesiveness is becoming a real problem. Is the solution a ship system of government?

"If we aren't fighting zombies or pirates, it's each other. This needs to stop," Picard said. "We need to pull this crew together, but it's a unique situation. Therefore, I suggest a unique solution ( ... )

Nathan nodded, opening his folder of documents and notes, "I think having a congressional or parliamentary section is an excellent idea. Dr. Grey and I have been looking into some of the governmental systems and laws of the people on this ship to establish more structuring. I think we should also look further to keeping the heads of the other departments and allowing them to have Cabinet position and advisory role. Unless others feel they can be part of the council?"

He then glanced over at Jean with a nod for when she was ready to speak.

"I think the best option in coming up with council members is to look to those crew members who have some sort of political or diplomatic background. We'll want to try to ensure that everyone feels as though their voices have a chance of being heard by those who are in charge."

She glanced over at Picard, "I'm not saying you're inaccessible, you just tend to be a little intimidating to some of the crew. I'm sure you understand."

She looked back to her notes. "Obviously we'll want to look for crew members who tend to be level headed in most situations, be able to look at all sides of a potential conflict, and not easily agitated as it will more than likely be a very demanding job."
