Lafiel was astonished. The creature was engulfed in energy from that floating orb, like a freshly loaded tactical mine. It was blindingly bright. She could not even focus enough to provide him with cover, not that he needed it.
She saw him seem to deflate as the blast left him. She cursed in Baronh, scrambled down the rooftop and jumped the last couple meters. Her legs burned (amhirgeth gravity!) in her crouch. Klanyu drawn, she sprinted towards the pokemon.
Normally, of course, she would have let him go. Human losses were acceptable. But Pikachu was different.
Pikachu was a pet. And Lafiel had gone back into a burning ship to retrieve someone else's cat.
Jinnto would not have approved of her leaving him behind.
Immediately though a wall of them moved to block her from her rescuee. She raised the laser pistol and fired. Soundlessly two toppled forwards, neat quarter sized holes sliced through their brains. There were always more. And they just kept coming.
"Pikachu!" She called, trying to get his location amidst the mire.

Pikachu's ear twitched at Lafiel's cry, and he sent out a small jolt of electricity, knocking a zombie back. He was panting, sucking in air from exhaustion. That attack had taken every last ounce of energy he had, and it was only a matter of time before he passed out or was Trophied. "Pi-- pika pika!" he shouted, or tried. His throat was dry, and it came out more like a weak squeak than anything.
Then, he saw her. Fighting off the temptation to pass out then and there, he dropped once more to all fours and loped after her, running as fast as he could to get to her. "Chaaa!" he shouted, his squeaking voice nearly cracking from the strain.
