Daniel can never, ever, sit on his hands and do nothing. He guesses he kind of like Jack in that respect. But he tries not to think about that too much, it makes him miss his team. Sorely

"Try including references of deaths of civilizations that are attributed to gods or mystical acts or something along those lines. Ancient civilizations tend to attribute things they can't understand to stuff like that."
Daniel actually chuckled a little at the suggestion, "Uh, yeah... I did that. I'm still getting a lot of results. It's--" he gestures at the organic machine he's been working at, "--it's worse than the internet. Hasn't anyone tried to organize this before?" the last part said mostly to himself.
Wyn sings quietly to herself as she searches the databases for anything beyond the absolute basics of sorcery, completely ignoring the fact that someone has a tape recorder very near her. "Shiny and black like shoes on a rack, with a trigger that's dressed up in gold-- damage to the database? Really?"
"Well, that explains a few things if it is true. If I have my search for anything beyond Bechdel's Primer come up as either 'error' or 'entry not found' one more time-- anyway, sorry, rant mode disengaged." Wyn says, giving Daniel a slightly apologetic smile.
"You could also try looking for civilizations that just stopped being mentioned in records for no apparent reason. Even if the records are incomplete, there'd be at least some mention of them every so often, right?" She's no historian, but that's just logic... right?
Daniel chuckled slightly at her small rant. Something about that reminded him of Sam, something he doesn't mind one bit.
"That could work," his face brightens up and works with the interface again, he has a few auto searches going, he adds that to the list. Along with all the stuff he is manually searching though.
"I'm really grasping at straws here but--there has to be something."
Daniel was completely startled by Bruce, he didn't hear him come in. One startled jump later, he composes himself, "Actually, I'm assuming it has. What I'm looking for is--is traces--something that might have been missed. Obscure references... that kind of thing."
"Have you tried looking up the crew? Some of us are famous enough to be in the history books. If there were any unexplained disappearences in their records, we would at least know that there was the possibility of spotting some of these omissions."
Daniel let out a thoughtful sound, "I started looking through the history of my own universe. And frankly, it has only led me to dead ends or--or known enemies that I'm not even sure exist here." He frowns slightly, "But you're right, I might have better luck looking at these other universe. Um..." he pushed up his glasses, "What about yours?"
Otacon watched over Daniel's shoulder for a moment or two, hesitant to speak while he had the tape recorder for fear of being an annoyance. Damage to the database? The engineer wondered if there was anything he could do to fix it. And it struck him as strange that there would be no real reference to their enemy, unless...
"...What if the damage was done to the direct references? Maybe by someone who didn't want that information found." He voiced his own thoughts, completely forgetting anything even remotely resembling a greeting.
Daniel doesn't get annoyed. Unless it's Jack or Vala. Otacon is neither.
His eyebrows went it up, "That's possible, I mean, I still don't know what happened to cause this in the first place." He put down his recorder and crossed his arms over the odd organic desk he was sitting at, "For all I know... the ship was attacked as smoke screen to alter the database."
"Stranger things have happened. I'd call that plausible if not outright likely." He adjusted his glasses, studying the information Daniel was looking through.
"It would've been a good distraction, at any rate. I just have to wonder exactly what information could have been so important.
