Meet and Greet, Smell My Feet

Sep 01, 2009 17:56

Another day, another podpop. The crew and command crew has gathered on Obs Deck to greet the newbs, but right now the atmosphere is tense. People are taking turns on rotations to alternately hunt for Sam--who'd been kept in prison during the trial to present his assassinating the Yeerk-- and guard said parasite so it can have a fair trial. The Jury ( Read more... )

"Hello, hello!" calls an old man who has found himself a handy spot right near the entrance to the Obs Deck. "New people, please, could I get you over here for a minute? Yes, a nice orderly line, right this way..." His manner is so blatantly friendly and vaguely hapless it's almost funny; one might easily imagine him to be just a slightly senile old man given the job nobody else wanted. "If I could just get your name, age, and profession before you mingle, yes, thank you..."

He seems like a friendly old man, but for some reason Nanoha gets a strange sense of authority from him. So, she very politely answers: "Captain Nanoha Takamachi, 19 years old. Magical combat instructor in the Time-Space Administration Bureau."

"Quite a position for someone your age," the old man says bemusedly, noting down the information on a little datapad. He tilts it up so he can get a quick picture of her.

She smiled. "Thank you. I'm not the only one, though."

A pause. "May I ask your name, sir?"

As the ship had provided her with a plantlike new outfit - and the familiar weight of Raising Heart against her chest - Nanoha felt slightly more at ease on the observation deck as she watched the multiverse pass them by. It was like being on one of the TSAB's starships, though she was still unable to contact anyone, which shouldn't have been possible - she should have been able to reach somebody!

Where was Fate? Where was Vivio...?! Were they all right without her? Nanoha knew that the girl would be well-cared-for in her absence, but... she hated the thought of Vivio alone without her adopted mother. There was a worried look on her face as she stared out the window.

Chris had heard that every so often about the new arrivals and he soon spotted one. A young woman around his age, shorter and she seemed asian. Japanese perhaps?

Chris waved. "Hi there. I'm Chris. Do you need any help? Are you all right?"

It was a boy, perhaps a bit older (or younger?) than she was - Nanoha turned, shaking her head. "Ah... I'm fine. I'm just worried about everybody else. I can't contact them at all." But she shook the smile off. "I'm sorry. I'm okay, really."

Ah. That was something he was used to. He didn't like it, but he was used to it.

"I know that feeling when I first arrived on the ship. If you're sure you're okay..." He thoughtfully chose his next question wisely. "Is there anything I can do? Any questions I can answer?"

For a moment, Asuka is rendered speechless as she catches sight out of the view outside of the windows. It's... rather incredible, to say the least. She's still not very comfortable - the ship has seen fit to give her a few spare plugsuits, plus her nerve clips. That's about it. She really wishes that she didn't have to wear this disgusting thing made out of... something she didn't want to think about.

So, she tries to find someone who looks like they're in charge. She's going to get answers.

Katara had made the podpop because she figured people coming out would want some answers too. She'd definitely appreciated it last month, why not now? She walked around, seeing who had emerged.

There was a rather angry looking girl who Katara might have avoided if only because she wasn't sure what she was in for, but decided against it. Besides, who knew what was going through her head?

"Hi," Katara said brightly. "I'm Katara. I guess you have a lot of questions right now. Fire away!"

Asuka rounded on the strange girl with a glare and an imperious look, "I'm Asuka Langley Soryu and you..." she punctuated her remark by jabbing a finger toward Katara, "...had better start answering my questions! Where the Hell are we? What is this place? How did you bring me here? Where are my clothes?"

She paused, looking over Katara with contempt, "Once NERV finds out about this you are all... so... dead!"

Of course, she had her own doubts about where they actually were, what with the whole "space" thing outside the window.

Katara's friendly smile changed more to a "oh-no-she-didn't" expression. "Ok, first off, I'm volunteering them, I don't have to answer anything! Second, you really can't think I'm the one that brought you here, i don't even HAVE this technology in my world. Third, if you really want your clothes so bad you can look in the weapons locker, you might find them there. Finally, I don't know what NERV is, and really don't care since you're probably lightyears away from them now."

Katara huffed, and turned a glare at the girl. "Now, when you're done being rude, I can answer the questions that actually matter!"

Still a little shocked from the podpop, Oliver was sitting against the wall at the edge of the crowd of newcomers.

He still wasn't comfortable around all these humans, with absolutely no one like him here.

It was a small alien. A species he didn't really know, though it was similar to some, it didn't quite match. And judging by his actions, it was either a very meek person...or a child?

It was always a bit hard to tell with new species, what were children, and what were adults.

< Hello. > Elfangor greeted Oliver in thought speak. The alien did seem to be eying the humans warily, so hopefully seeing another alien might be reassuring. < I am Elfangor. >

It is...vaguely...reassuring.

The only problem is that he's never met any other type of alien before, having spent his entire life on earth.

"Oliver," he says, still somewhat wary. "Where is here?"

< This is the Observation Deck. It is part of the organic ship that spoke to you before, the one named Stacy. It is an inter-dimensional ship as well. We are traveling between them at the moment. > Elfangor explained and paused. < I do not mean offense, but of your species, are you a child? >

He wanted to be sure on that first before he said something offensive on accident.

Angua stood in the corner a little uneasily. She'd managed to get accustomed to all the new scents around here, so her headache was faded. She wasn't sure she liked this suit they'd given her, though. The pulsing was acutely obvious to her.

With nobody else she knew here, she decided she should stay calm and focused. At least most of the inhabitants of this... "ship" seemed friendly (ship? What ship had a roof this large on it?). Friendly or so foreign she probably couldn't have smelled any ill will against her on them, anyway. For the time being, it was time to do what she did best and just watch.

"Hell of a place to get stuck in, isn't it," Meluly comments as she slides up near Angua. She thinks she recognizes some of the military manner in the other woman-she's not quite on, but she's in the general territory, at least.

She doesn't think about the impact (if any) her red eyes and silver tracework tattoos might have on any judgment of her, though.

"I'll say," Angua agreed with the other woman, though she managed to be very discreet in her utter disbelief at her appearance. The eyes and tattoos were... well, like nothing she'd ever seen before, but it looked like how she'd always imagined the stories about the Fair Folk.

Of course, the woman had yet to enslave Angua's mind and take her prisoner, so she was all right with going along calmly for now.

"I hear them calling it a 'ship' but I don't believe it. I've never seen a ship this size. And sailing in the air?"

Luly's face sharpens, and she immediately thinks of Katara. Another-backwards-person? It only seems to make sense, if there are others from before her own time.... "It's a starship," she says, her teeth bright against her dark lips. "We're in interstellar space-the gaps between the stars," she adds, trying to figure out how to explain it best. "There's... it's mostly empty, some particles between systems but they're spread out so far-" (and she gestures broadly) "-that they might as well not be there."

Well, okay, she kind of failed. But maybe a little fraction of the gist got across.
