I thought the human stories were sensitively portrayed, but that lesbians as a whole were typecast as "really unsure how to feel about all these former women--men?" Maybe it's my age, but I've never known a gay woman who discounted the validity of anyone's transition.

i didnt like the article for a number of reasons. #1 because i hate that this is such an issue in the lesbian/trans community that it had to be put in the new york times. #2 the writer used wrong pronouns a lot and hinted at choice.

the constant pronoun switching was annoying. i also don't know how much validity there actually is to the assumption that lesbians are threatened by those with a trans identity.

Terribly late as usual, but I know several lesbians who undermine decisions to transition from either side. I attribute this to their age, they are in their forties and so they grew up with tightly political lesbian groups as part of Second Wave Feminism. I can understand the threat to their collective identity as their emphasis was on Women (as a fixed category) Loving Women, and resisting the Patriarchy. So obviously when their allies "jump ship" they feel something akin to being robbed from the inside.
