It was close to 11 and seemed quick to explore.

There is a single fountain. Buckets are found in the center, with the usual dried flowers and glowing plant.

The back wall is light from the plant and appears to be a normal cavern wall. The number of tracks makes it seem like this well is frequently used and it is impossible to just track a single pair.

"Well. Somebody knows what they're doing." Sam crouched down to get a closer look at the tracks, frowning. "At least there's nothing else breathing here."

"Yeah, we must have beat them here," Dean remarked as he peered closer at the wall in turn. He turned to glance down at the tracks. See if they repeat, or random pattern.

Back at the rendezvous point, Zouichi took a brief moment now that they'd rescued the kid to see if the two town pieces of paper fit into the torn-out portions of the book. "I found the two papers implicating Nomalanga in a damp area, covered with dry soil, at a location that seemed like it received a lot of foot traffic," he said. "But in the context of what the kidnappers said, it seems doubtful that Nomalanga is the one cooperating with Snidely. I'd guess that it was hastily placed where someone could easily find it, to sow distrust ( ... )

"I think that the mayoress playing us could be ruled out almost by default. She has little to gain from calling us, total strangers, in just to trick us; it couldn't be to have us uncover a fake conspiracy to inspire trust: there is little love for outsiders here, such a plan would have been better executed by insiders. So it was more than likely an attempt to seed doubts."

Tim folded his arms over his chest, and nodded his agreement to Zouichi. "I think it's most plausible that we have more than one person to deal with here," he said. "And the evidence seems to pretty strongly point toward Allard being a victim, yes." That was an understatement.

So that left the question of who was playing Allard. And there were motivations to take into account as well. "The notes and pages seem to point most strongly towards Mekaisto, and several items-- including the oversized knife-- point toward Taworri. The problem, then, is also motivation."

Sam shook his head. "Given the size of the creature that knife was in? It'd definitely have to be somebody big." Hell, Sam himself had had to climb up to get at it. "Even so, it's...all a little too pat. The information could lead to any of the three. And a kidnapped child would be a good motivation to betray someone."

Sam knew damned well how easily family could be used against someone, after all.

[Okay this is just an area for fun where you all post your guesses as who is guilty or not and how and why. Then we can get on to the final part.]

IT WAS THE BUTLER

I'm rooting for Allard being involved but coerced into the plot because his kid was kidnapped, and Mekaisto at least being the accomplice. :|a

Dude, the butler never did it. At least, not in Christie. Butlers weren't of the right class to commit murder.

I still vote everybody. Though I'm leaning a little toward Taworri now...

The butler was at a butler-ing convention. He has an alibi.

Echoing Allard being involved because of his kid getting kidnapped, the note about saving her, and what the kidnappers said. So he was coerced.

They also claimed he was trying to pin something on someone. I'm thinking that was one of the other Three-- and I think Mekaisto as well. All of the notes and things trying to pin stuff on the mayoress, etc, are her sort of neat handwriting. And the explosives stuff tie to her as well, including the red + blue thing oops.

The final confrontation and the plot revealed meat_mooks October 24 2011, 21:46:48 UTC
Their guesses done, it was time to talk to all four of them. Of course, the importance of who to address first, what information to withhold until ready and who to hold on to to make sure they didn't escape was just as important.

It seemed to be the general consensus that they begin with Allard-- they had the biggest bargaining chip when it came to him, and the most to go off of. And considering his (unintentionally?) dropped hint at the very beginning of the mission, he was also the most likely to talk. They could approach him to get him to tell his side of things, and his testimony would likely provide a solid backing for their interrogations of the others.

"Allard," Tim said, flatly, as he approached the man with the others. He was careful to not let his voice betray accusation, but also to not sound totally at ease either. Even if Allard was likely a victim here, he didn't want to play his hand too early. "We wanted to speak to you about something we found. We were wondering if you could shed some light on the matter."

Allard didn't look too pleased he was being talked to first, but his eyes held a sort of pride about them when he talked. Even if he was surrounded by the others.

"I am not the smartest of the three," he explained. "But tell me what you need to have looked at."

Once they'd gotten him out away from Nomalanga and the others, Zouichi spoke to him quickly and quietly.

"Before we say anything else, we want to tell you this -- your child is safe. We found her in the care of a couple of Snidley's bodyguards, but she was unharmed by the ordeal, and she's with us now. It's all right."
