As the group got farther down, they could make out two figures busy playing cards. On the far left, there was a child, wrapped up in a lot of cloths. A single bottle was on the side and the child appeared to be sleeping.

"So ya really think dah boss is gonna let the kid live?" one of them asked the other. The other spit in the ground.

"Nah, soon as the deal's done with, he's probably gonna kill it off to show the guy who's boss, ya know?"

Tim was quick to swing himself over the edge, hitting the ground with a roll as he did so. One hand immediately flew up to launch his throwing discs at the men, aiming to hit their arms, to knock away the guns, using the lenses in his cowl to see through the smoke better than he would have without.

In the meantime, he detached his cape again, throwing it over the kid. It wasn't perfect, but it had some bulletproofing and could protect her from the smoke, if nothing else.

"No you DON'T!" Smoke-bombing, cape-throwing, arm-wrenching... all it needed now was pair of fists! Which Allenby was only too happy to provide, launching herself forward at the dog-looking one and unleashing a flurry of punches.

Smoke schmoke.

"FOR ANASTARIAN!" Mar bellowed. In a flurry of motion he leaped in and in one smooth motion hurled his shield at the robot dude. Holy light shone around it; it flashed neatly past Zouichi, slammed into the robot, then ricocheted off to wallop the bulldog dude before bouncing back to the paladin's hand. In the meantime, he threw out two more spells off the GCD -- first, invoking a holy barrier around the poor kid which no physical attack could penetrate, then binding holy magic to forcibly taunt turn the attention of the bulldog creature away from Allenby and onto himself.

Then he swung his sword wide, sending a shockwave of holy power out that wouldn't hurt the robot, but would knock it senseless for a good seven seconds or so. More than enough time.

Seems like the others had the combatants well in hand. As much as Ellyn wanted to set the bulldog's tail on fire and smelt the robot--well, there was a precious, important cargo to get out of there ( ... )

Mar blinked.

"When did I become a hunter?"

For a moment, Ellyn stared, mouth open, at the bat on her shoulder.

Then she remembered just who she was carrying, and unwrapped the kid. She'd been trying to be very careful--if the bat survived, the kid should be okay too.

Ellyn hoped.

"Got the bottle near the kid too," she grunted. "Figured it might be a dose o' some sort ta keep it asleep or quiet."

Tim was bothered by the reaction of the 'robot,' and the fluid that looked suspiciously similar to blood, but he shook it off. He couldn't let himself get bothered by it. Especially not with what these men had done.

He was wary of Ellyn's reckless behaviour-- but she had gotten the child away and to safety, and frankly? That was all he really cared about, for now. Any warnings could come later, and were secondary.

Since it seemed that the team had thoroughly thrashed the two men, Tim quickly went to the bulldog bandit, pulling cuffs from his belt to secure him before he could think about escaping. He would, however, leave the bat on his nose. "We should secure them both," Tim said, reaching for some cable from his belt to pass off to whoever was willing to do the job (he didn't figure handcuffs were effective on a one armed robot).

Zouichi took the cable, and wound the disarmed robot's remaining arm tightly to his body. As for the arm socket, well...

He sprayed some sealant foam on the arm socket. There. Fixed!

"Either of you feel like talking?" Zouichi asked of the henchmen.

"'Scuse me?" Allenby grabbed the dog's collar and hauled him up. "You were so chatty a minute ago about your boss's plans."

She held up her other hand, flexing her fingers and curling them into a fist in front of his face. "We're all real sorry about interruptin' your break time there, so let's hear everything about it! ...Unless you wanna have another go. I wouldn't mind havin' another go, would you guys?"

"Ya know, I think yer boss'd look much better on fire. An' that goes fer th' two o'ya mooks as well. So ya really got a choice. Ya c'n either warble like yer li'l canaries now, or we c'n have a weenie roast, an' you two are th' weenies."

Ellyn shrugged, and looked at her little bat buddy.

"Seriously, my bat will attack you if you don't talk. Again." He pointed helpfully at his bad comrade.
