Meat n' Greet

The rest of the crew assembled on the Observation Deck to meet the latest editions to their numbers. After the revelation that their worlds are gone, many of them are even more eager to see people they knew from home.

Several people are set up near the doors to provide the new people with omnicoms and comm rings. New crew-mates might see ( Read more... )

He certainly felt more comfortable out of the pod room, and it helped that he had been given some clothing. Well more of a body suit really, but it was better than being start naked right? Yet he still felt off about this whole thing. To think that all these people had been whisked from their perspective places in space and time, and brought here. It was mind boggling, and he didn't deal well with having his mind boggled ( ... )

"Oh? What others are we talking about?"

Midna liked sneaking up on people. Especially people in deep thought.

The muscles in his shoulders tensed at the sudden question, indicating that Midna had indeed snuck up on him successfully. Green eyes turned down towards the creature, red brows lifted in surprise. He'd never seen anything like Midna before. Then again, that was probably going to be one of his dominant thoughts for the next few days.

"My friends." He spoke clearly, his rustic accent ringing true. "The people I left behind." That wasn't entirely the case, as it wasn't his choice to be here. Yet he'd likely think that way for a good long while.

"You are?" He asked, obviously curious. Was she part of the normal crew? He could see all the others mingling, the newest recruits meeting with the crew. All part of orientation he supposed. "I'm Crono, by the way. I'm kind've new here."

"Are you from the country or something?"

She motioned vaguely in the air at the mention of leaving people behind. "Well, if your friends didn't show up today, there's always next time. Eee hee!"

"And you can call me Midna. I guess you could call me new, but... not newer than you." She grinned.

Crono nodded his head slightly at the question. "Yeah. I come from a pretty small town out in the country. It's called Truce." He doubted she would know what he was talking about any better than Sazh had earlier. Seemed they really did all come from different places.

Her blasé statement regarding his friends just made him more curious. He pushed his body off the wall, and stretched his arms into the air for a moment. It was always healthiest to have a quick stretch after sitting still for too long. "How does that work? I thought everything was gone. You know..." and at that he put his hands together, and mimed an explosion.

"Well...It's a pleasure to meet you Midna." he tilted his head to one side, examining Midna with the blatant curiousity that could only come from someone who didn't know any better. "Can I ask you a question?" It seemed he was only asking for posterity's sake however, as he voiced his thoughts a moment later. "What do you think of this? Everything...the crew, and those things they called the Ohm?"

"Weeeeell, supposedly, your world's gone. But did you look around and see all of the pod-things in there? Someone gets taken out one day and their friends pop out a while later." She grinned. "And sometimes they go forever without anyone from their world coming out. So who knows? Maybe you'll see a familiar face."

She leaned back in the air, yawning. "Hmm. Kind of a big topic, there. The crew? Some of them are pretty nice, some of them are jerks. Naturally, they can't ever agree on anything. Which I guess is why they elected a couple of people to be in charge. There're a bunch of them away on some mission right now.

"As for the Ohm, I haven't fought one myself. But a bunch of the crew have, pretty recently. They're a bunch of big bugs. Supposedly, they're mad at us because someone did something." She shrugged. "What that something is? Who knows?"

Now he was confused, at it showed plainly on his face. "How does that even work..." he muttered, more to himself than to Midna. He considered the prospects for a moment, but in the end he resigned himself with a shrug of his shoulders. He had the same issue when Lucca had tried to explain time travel. He just couldn't wrap his head around some things. "Guess I'll just have to hope for the best eh ( ... )

"Pretty much. I know a guy who tried to break his friends out one time. Didn't work, and he got in trouble. Anyway, if you want to meet the Captain, he's still on the ship. But I don't see him around much. Guess you could always try to send a message to him, though."

"You have a problem with bugs or something?"

Crono nodded his head slowly, wondering if perhaps he should send the captain a message. Would there be a point? The man would be busy, and there really wasn't anything he needed in particular. Beyond an assignment, and he could only assume someone else would be giving him that ( ... )

"Oh yeah? Well... sorry to hear that."

"Me? I'm from a little realm called Hyrule. Of course, it was taken over by an evil sorcerer a while before I got here. And then it got destroyed. I was in the middle of saving, too."

She paused. "Well, helping to save it."

"Yeah...Well we have bigger fish to fry now I guess." Perhaps this was all for the best? After all these Ohm creatures destroyed worlds as well. It never hurt to get rid of something that destroyed planets.

"Hyrule?" The confusion in his voice made it obvious that he'd never heard of the place. "So you had to deal with an evil sorcerer too huh?" He had always wondered about magic. It seemed the more people knew of it, they greater the chance they would become evil. Queen Zeal, Magus...Some of his greatest enemies had been powerful spell-casters. A disturbing thought.

"Helping? So you had team-mates working with you too huh?" As he posed the question he lifted his gaze from Midna for a moment, to look around the room. What were all the others learning? Those who had come in the latest batch with him. "Are your friends here with you, or are you like me?"

"Yeah, you know the story. Evil sorcerer gets power-mad, tries to take over the kingdom, and so on. We were about to show him the door out before I got put here, though. Anyway, I was working with this big important hero. Shiny sword, nice horse, you know."

"But no, he's not here, and neither is anyone else I knew from back home."

"Really? Wow. We had one've those too. Well...kind of. Our hero kind of died in the middle of slaying the power-mad wizard." He was of course talking about Cyrus, whom Glenn had accompanied back before The Magus had cursed him. Old tales like that must be pretty universal.

"So we're both by ourselves huh? I mean, in the way that no one else from our home is here." Crono still wasn't sure what to do with himself, so he was busy fidgeting as he spoke. You know how it went. First his arms were crossed, then un-crossed moments later. Standing one way, then another. He was a youthful person who was quite used to being on the move. Definitely not accustomed to standing still for too long. "Well I'm glad I got to meet you Midna. It's probably the best thing to happen to me all day." He smiled as he spoke, he meant it but it could also be taken as a joke. Considering his day was being dumped out of a pod onto some living spaceship.

"Hmm. So, what, you took up the slack?"

"I guess you could say that. And hey, like I said, maybe some of your friends will end up here sometime." She yawned widely. "Anyway, if you want to go somewhere and fidget, why don't you go visit Hydroponics? Or something. It's a big ship."

"Well not me specifically. It's a pretty long story. I did help though."

Crono nodded his head slowly, choosing to trust Midna since she obviously knew what she was talking about. Still he wouldn't hold his breath. "Maybe." His head tilted to one side, as he settled a curious green eyed gaze on her. "Really? We're free to go where we want? I just kind of figured there was more to this whole thing?" Wouldn't they be getting an assignment? Or...something. How'd the ship run? Were the new guys more passengers than anything else at first?

"Well, yeah. You're pretty much on your own unless there's something big going on." She eyed him, considering for a moment. "But someone like you, yeah... maybe you should see if you can talk to the Outsiders. They might be able to help you out."

Better than Midna, anyway. They were more or less used to welcoming new people.
