Picnic! This time, Cagalli skipped the baths, and... pretty much the rest of the party actually, still feeling a bit out of place after being a kid for so long. She had a glass of sake - the stuff was pretty dry! - which she sipped slowly while watching the cherry petals falling.

All I need is a kimono now... she thought to herself with a grin, as she took another small sip.

Allenby had long ago finished her sake and was now on a second one, and was now trying to catch the falling petals in her mouth like snowflakes. But when she caught sight of Cagalli, she grinned broadly and swung around a tree, leaning off of it with just one hand around the trunk for support.

"Heeeey, Cagalli! Man, it's been forever since I saw ya!"

Cagalli waved back a little, sipping her drink. Allenby's crazy acrobatics have always been fun. "That's because I turned small and shy for a few weeks."

"Small and--oh!" Allenby scowled. "You got turned into a kid by that stupid clock. Yeah, I met another friend've mine who got all screwed up by that thing. You okay now?" Because Duo sure hadn't been.

"Yeah, I'm fine now. It was weird as hell though once I knew what was going on." Not that she could perceive it, at first, but once she'd aged down so far her age really failed to jive with her memories from her time on the ship. "What were you up to?"

"I bet," Allenby said with a sympathetic wince. She wasn't about to share her conversation with Duo, but it had messed him up in the head but good. "I've been lots of stuff." She began counting on her fingers. "Fightin' Ohm, Shakespeare, fixing my Gundam, fighting religious crazies on some weird planet, moving in with Zouichi... some good and some bad stuff, really."

"Jeez you've been busy. Now it just feels like I've missed out on a lot..." Like fighting the damn Ohm! She'd have to make it up to everyone by being twice as productive when she did get to face them down.

"So, you moved in with Zouichi?"

"It seems like we got some crazy thing going on every other week, so I'm sure you'll be able to catch up soon," Allenby chuckled.

She took a sip of sake. The stuff was good, once she'd got used to the kick. "Yup! A little while ago. He found this place and decided to get it all cleaned up, and I helped."

"To be honest, I've just... mostly been staying at the bunks instead of moving in with anyone." She hasn't wanted to to impose on someone, and cleaning up one of the abandoned structures herself would end up with her sleeping on a futon surrounded by junk.

"Yeah, I stuck to the crew quarters for a while too," Allenby said. "I'm kinda used to that sort of thing 'cause I've been in the military a long time, but I like this place a whole lot better."

Still, Allenby was on her own when it came to people from her Earth. That wasn't true for Cagalli. "But what about Kira? You could always live with him, unless you like bein' on your own better."

"I've relied on him for enough already," she said softly. "I know he'd say yes the moment I asked, but I'd rather... do my own thing."

Kira's done a lot more for Orb than she has, it seems.

Allenby leaned back against the tree, one hand behind her back. She had to admit, she was kind of confused... wasn't that what brothers and friends were for? People to rely on. She knew that Domon had always been able to rely on his brother, even if the circumstances had ended up very strangely.

But everyone was different, she supposed. "So you want to rely on your own strengths, huh?" If it was that, it was something Allenby could understand better.

Cagalli thought on that for a moment. "Yeah. Sounds right... he's fought so many battles for me. And..." She blushed, very lightly. "Wanna give him and Lacus privacy too."

"Ah... wait, ya mean that diplomat lady?" That made Allenby grin. "I didn't know they were dating!" Kira had seemed too glum to have a girlfriend, so it pleased her to know that he did. "But I get not wanting to depend on him for everything. You gotta have some challenge in your life, or it just gets boring."

"Yeah, they've... well, I don't know if they'd say that they've been together for a while, but Kira and Lacus have been really close for years now." Thinking about them brought a soft smile to Cagalli's face. "And I'm glad you get what I mean, even if it feels like sort of a petty way to be independent."
