All Hail the Conquering Heroes! [OPEN]

((Takes place several hours after the conclusion of this))

They survived. More than that, it seemed as if they actually won; the Ohm had successfully been driven away from their location. The fight hadn't been easy, which one could easily tell just by looking at the Quarter as it docked in back in Stacy's Hangar ( Read more... )

Allenby hadn't been hurt. Her leg was kinda sore from the damage done to Nobel Gundam, but that was only from the feedback telling her that the mobile fighter's foot had been lopped off.

She hadn't gotten out of the Trace suit yet. She just stood with her forehead leaning against the wall, arms dangling. For the first time today, she'd killed people. Yeah, they were Ohm, the guys who'd destroyed Earth. Yeah, the Quarter's crew had fought to save another planet from suffering the same fate. And yeah, they'd won.

Now she was wondering about those Shrikes she'd danced through Splicer's traps and cut up with her own techniques. All of 'em had to have friends, even if it was just each other. She might've even created some more orphans like herself. She could deal with people being hurt. Hell, even her teammates being hurt--as long as they got better. But ending someone else's life?

Gundams weren't for that. Allenby didn't care what other Earths did with theirs, it was wrong. But she'd just used Nobel Gundam for the same damn thing and ( ... )

Sonic was a little bummed - his Variable Fighter was a bit banged up from his own fighting, especially after he went head to head with them. He needed to see if he could have something smaller built - as much as he enjoyed it, it was a bit cumbersome.

As he stepped out, stretching his muscles a bit, he noticed Allenby looking upset. He couldn't help but approach her, concerned.

"Hey, Allenby. You okay?"

"Oh--hey Sonic." Allenby stood up straight and slumped back against the wall, looking Sonic up and down. "Yeah, I got off pretty easy out there considerin' what we were up against."

She straightened up a little. "What about you? You didn't get too beat up, didja?" With the chaos, Allenby'd had a hard time keeping track of where everyone was except right around her.

"If anything, I'm just sore." Sonic said. "It was my plane that got banged up more." He let out a sigh. "It's a bit too big for me. I'm gonna need to see if I can get some sort of switch set up."

He couldn't help but smile at his friend. "At least we made it through. That's all that counts, right?"

"I guess it's not really built for someone like you, huh?" Allenby a hand on her hip. Well, she was cohead of the weapons and defense division of Engineering... "I can help ya out, I bet. Just gimme the schematics when you've got some time and I'll see what I can do."

She smiled back a little. "Yeah, I'm real glad everyone got back alive. Don't think I ever fought an opponent like the Ohms before."

Sonic couldn't help but blink. She'd be willing to help him? His smile grew wider. "Well, then! Once we're all rested up, I'll send ya what I have and go from there!"

He nodded at her assessment of their foes. "Ditto. I've dealt with an alien invasion before, but nothing like that...!"

"Sounds great!" She grinned, already starting to think about what kind of improvements could be made on his fighter, but the subject of the Ohm made her expression grow more serious.

"Back on Earth I fought an enemy we thought was gonna swallow up the whole planet, but crazy as it was, this was a lot more intense." There was bitterness in her voice at the irony of beating the Devil Gundam only to lose Earth to some aliens nobody knew existed. "With equipment that good, I can see how they've been able to run around doin' what they do."

"Yeah, I could see that for sure." Sonic said, nodding. "But, hey, we kicked their butts and we'll do it again next time!"

It was at that point he noticed Allenby's trace suit and couldn't help but let out a cough, trying to ignore that. "Ah... you actually wear that?"

"Right," Allenby said with a grin. It had been really tough, but they'd still pulled it off. And next time she'd know more about what she was supposed to do in a battle like that, so they'd be even better and it wouldn't feel so close.

She gave Sonic a puzzled look and looked down at her trace suit. "Uh, yeah. That's how my Gundam works. Why?" No, she saw no problem with it at all. Although she did sometimes like looking at the guy Fighters in their suits.

"You use it to control your machine?" Sonic said, still a little shocked. It was then he noticed the nodes attached to the suit. Now things made a little more sense. But still, wearing something like that out here? Very distracting.

"Huh. I didn't know that." he said finally. It was probably time to change the subject.

"Yeah, the trace system copies your movements in the cockpit." She punched the air a couple of times to illustrate. She took it for granted that it was the system that Sonic found puzzling, since that's what most people did. So far she hadn't heard any comments on the shrinkwrap-like qualities of the suit.

"I guess sitting cockpits are more common, but I still like how mine works more."

Hikari smiled as she looked around the hanger, knowing that everyone was coming back from the battle. She spotted Allenby, and ran over. "Allenby! You're alright!"

She had been a bit worried when she had realized that this next battle against the Ohm meant that she wouldn't be able to help at all. Tailmon had run off somewhere again though, but right now where her partner was didn't really matter. Tailmon was allowed to go where she wanted, after all.

Allenby looked up when she heard that voice. Despite her mood, she had to grin. "Heeey, Hikari!" Impulsively, she grabbed the girl in a quick hug. Allenby still felt like she owed her one for trying to help her out back on Gondepetil, even if none of them had been able to fight those shadows.

"'Course I am." But the usual cocky things she'd say--took more than some space bugs to dent her, I'm fine but the Ohm sure ain't--seemed wrong. "...Anythin' big going on here?"

Hikari smiled, hugging Allenby back. "Not really."

"Heh, good." Allenby looked back at the Quarter for a moment. Not for the first time she wondered about the presence of kids like Hikari on the ship. She could fight and that was good, but the idea of her being in a battle like that--

--Well she hadn't been, which was important. "So do ya know a lot of people that went on this mission, or just me?"

Hikari shook her head. "I... don't really know a lot of people who are part of the space squadrons," she answered. "I'm just glad that it went better than the fight on Zokez II..."
