Target Practice

Apr 03, 2011 23:33

Well done, these sensoria. Very reminiscent of some of the similar technology at home, but with some distinct differences that were nevertheless very intuitive and easy to get a grip on.

So the Chancellor stood there in dark room full of holographic stars and 'actual' doors with a plasma pistol and did his favorite kind of solo target practice.

Usually Trudy could find an open Sensorium room, but with all the new arrivals they seemed to be booked. It was just luck that someone else had the same idea she did.

She stood in the doorway and spoke up before entering - it was never a good idea to surprise someone with a weapon. "Hey, mind if I join you? Everything else is taken."

Her service rifle - the blast rifle, not her original service rifle - was slung over her shoulder.

The Chancellor turns. "That should not b a problem at all. The targets may not be to your taste, but feel free to arrange your own."

Trudy stepped into the room and shut the door behind her. She pulled the rifle strap over her head and checked it over, making sure all its settings were correct.

Then she offered a hand to the stranger. "General Trudy Chacon," she said. "I think I would have remembered seeing you before."

A huge scaley hand shook hers. "A pleasure, General. I am called the Chancellor. Just arrived recently."

"Chancellor," Trudy said, nodding politely. "The pleasure's mine."

In the darkness, several glowing rings began to materialize against the backdrop of stars, like targets. She wasn't going to judge his propensity to shoot cute fuzzy animals - for all she knew they were like rats on his world - but she preferred the more conventional targets from her training.

"'Ware fire," Trudy said, taking a step away from the Chancellor and raising her rifle. Bright beams lanced out from the muzzle and shattered the nearest target into sparks. She shifted on to the next one. "Enjoying yourself so far on the boat?"

"Nicely done."

"I must admit there are many concerns, but I have been on worse ships." He's going to step aside himself and disintegrate a few more Saernai.

"What concerns you, the memory alteration, the tentacles or the fact that the whole crew is one breath away from strangling each other?"

She squeezed off a series of rapid shots that took out a cluster of targets and frowned. The last target glowed a dull red - she'd clipped it instead of shattering it. Trudy hefted her blast rifle and sighted down its length, firing again. This time it blew apart.

"All these, in addition to the fact that my daughter is being held hostage to STA'C K'LTRRB'TXFT's whims. The fact that this entire scenario is reminiscent.... of him." He shoots another copy of the Saernai.

"I wouldn't say held hostage," Trudy said. "Stacy could have used the people in the pods to get us to do shit for her dozens of times and she hasn't yet. It's a hell of a trump card to keep sitting on, especially with some of the scrapes this crew has gotten into. I don't think you need to worry about her being used against you."

All the rest of his concerns were perfectly valid. The crew was a disjointed mess that was only loosely organized and only then because most people recognized the need for some form of organization, or they would all murder each other. "We've been conscripted against our will into an interdimensional war - that's the long and short of it. Most of our complications come from whatever dimensional horror the Daligig decided to imprison on Stacy for the war effort, not from Stacy herself."

"That is... reassuring, thank you. It is easy to assume, in similar circumstances, that the same tactics will be used."

"What, you've been kidnapped by a living ship before?" Trudy asked. She lined up her shot carefully this time and squeezed the trigger, blasting it into bits. "Or you've been kidnapped transdimensionally, or you've unexpectedly woken up from stasis before?"

It'd make him fairly unique among the crew if that were the case. As far as she knew only Cargn and that Aang kid had any knowledge of the Daligig.

"The ship was similar, but not the same. This was in my own facet of reality."
