The Sacred City

After the crew finished up with the Rituals of Judgement and Joining, they were permitted to enter the city proper.

Orongo was even more impressive than it appeared from outside the wall. Despite the primitive seeming architecture, the city was alive with lights and sounds and colors. The numerous stone buildings were covered in bright paints in ( Read more... )

Before Daimon did anything else he first wanted to see where they would be staying for the night. He rubbed his chest absently, a habit he'd picked up since the darksoul left him. It was strange to feel completely smooth skin over his chest now that his birthmark was gone. But those were not his thoughts at the moment. He didn't know precisely what he was thinking. Images of his wedding (but of course it wasn't really a wedding, was it?) to Patsy and feelings- feelings he'd been trying very hard to bury for what had to be over a year now.

It wasn't right to love her. Not then, not as the hideous spawn of Satan. But now that he was fully a man...

...And now he knew for certain that the strong desire to make out with Patsy was not solely from his darksoul.

The thought has occurred to me.

"Well, then..." Why was it that whenever he looked into her eyes he forgot everything he had meant to say? "If there is anything you would like to do..."

"Oh." In the space of seconds, Patsy went from blushing to blanching to blushing again. "Umm." She lowered her eyes, suddenly shy. It wasn't that this was her first time or anything - she was a divorced woman had who previously enjoyed a very healthy sex life. But she genuinely liked Daimon, and the last thing she wanted - despite her coquettish flirting - was to rush into anything with him.

She slipped her hand into his. "Maybe we can just talk? Get to know each other better?"

Once Daimon realized what Patsy thought he was talking about his face turned bright red, and not from hellfire. "I- I meant if you wanted to go into town or-" Oh dear. "B-but if you want to talk." He very tentatively took Patsy's hand.

How else can you mess this up, Daimon?

"Oh." Blink blink. "OH!" Patsy slipped her hand out of Daimon's and whirled around, too embarrassed to look at him now. "Oh god! Oh my god, what is wrong with me?! I thought...and you meant...oh, oh god, just kill me now!"

...And there went Patsy's hand. Good job, Daimon!

"No, no. It's my fault. I should have- ah, been more specific or- I'm sorry."

This was the most awkward wedding night ever.

"No no, it's fine. Really," Patsy managed to say after a moment. "This sort of stuff...happens?" Pause. "Maybe not." She shook her head. "Oh god. Do you think the others are as awkward and horrible at this as we are?"

"...Patsy I can assure you that there are few others more awkward and horrible at social and particularly romantic interaction than I."

He failed at life. And seduction. But most especially life.

"No no. This isn't all your fault. I'm partially at fault. I mean. I just assumed you were talking about...without realizing that you were much too gentlemanly to...and yes. Okay. So we both are not talented at this sort of thing." She turned to look at him. "Good thing we're paired up, huh?"

Daimon hesitated before speaking. He wanted to make sure he didn't want to make this situation even worse. "There is no one else I would rather be awkward and horrible with."

Except maybe Nehaa.

Patsy chuckled softly at that. "Daimon Hellstrom, that might be the sweetest thing any one has ever said to me." She reached up and kissed his cheek. "Thank you."

"Impossible." Daimon replied softly, just possibly leaning in slightly. "You are much too good a woman in virtually all aspects to not have been told something sweeter." He paused. "I suppose I should tell you more often."

"I wouldn't mind hearing it more often," she added. "Especially from you."

Daimon took a deep breath.

Well, he was a new man now, wasn't he? Now was the time to take chances.

Slowly, he reached up and brushed his hand against Patsy's cheek. "You are a beautiful woman in every sense of the word."

Patsy blushed again, faintly, and placed her hand over Daimon's. She opened her mouth to say something, and then closed it again. After another moment's hesitation, Patsy raised herself on the tips of her toes and leaned up to kiss Daimon.

Daimon's hand moved down to Patsy's neck. He gently pulled her closer, at the same time deepening the kiss.

And even if Patsy had a change of heart and shoved him away, Daimon was sure that if he died at this moment he would die a happy man.

A happy, full blooded human man.
