I think the other major indicator that something is up with Buffy and that her OOCness is a plot point is how in character Spike is. This IS our Spike, exactly as he was on the series. How can Joss get one character so spot-on but be making such egregious errors with his main heroine? The answer has to be that there is a purpose (not that certain factions of fandom will ever see anything but a straight reading of such craptastic lines as 'the bestest, weirdest, bestest, WTFiest day EVARRRR!!! - I wish them plenty of Stephenie Meyer books in their future, because that is what they should be reading if that's what they want from Joss) for Buffy's fucked-up characterization since the space fuck heard round the world.
As always, thoroughly enjoy your recaps, and man, is it good to have Spike back! Even though Dawn tried, she was never the voice of "what the hell are you doing?!" reason both Cordy and Spike always were. And if we ever needed a truth-teller, it's now.
