using your own analogy, both the war films and hop on pop had their points and reasons for being. they certainly aren't the same, but both have value. likewise, so do 300 and sin city. 300 is two hours of abs and ass-kicking (and some clunky dialogue). it's a popcorn movie, not a statement. i enjoyed it.

No, it WAS a statement. Did you not hear all of those thinly veiled Bushisms in their clunky and poorly delivered dialogue? (FREEDOM..LIBERTY..AND...oh wait, this is a monarchy..THE KING)
And if we're going in that direction, what about the concept of "kill all dark and/or gay people. and sexual deviants"

As a non-American, I completely agree. Although I severely disagree with the way the US is handling certain issues, I find a lot of the criticism totally out of proportion (eg. the bush-hitler comparisons). That only pollutes the discussion. Americans have plenty to be proud of (without being arrogant or overly patriotic).
