I just realized that the classy and high quality ABC Family sitcom 10 Things I Hate About You has come out with loads of new episodes over the past few months. (These are the things I don't realize when I am sans a television-- that is, sans reliving my adolescence on a daily basis by watching Gilmore Girls on ABC Family.) I will try to relish the episodes as, Woe!, the show has apparently been canceled. Yes, WOE. What will I do without broody Ethan Peck as Patrick Verona, or the hilarious and charming Nicholas Braun as Cameron, or the feisty snarkiness that is Lindsey Shaw as Kat?
Or this adorableness?
Answer: I do not know.
This got me thinking about the television shows I watched when I was a teen, and rewinding even further, when I was a kid. Cause obviously I still love book and movies for teens and kids now, but it had to have started somewhere, right?
Growing up, I was a PBS Kid-- I feel like I should put a TM after that-- a big fan of Reading Rainbow (thank you,
icebellaseahawk, for sharing the
LOC video!) and Sesame Street. The first non-public TV I remember watching was a short-lived western called
The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.. IMDB tells me that it aired for only one season in 1993, which might explain why no one I know seems to remember it. Anyway, Brisco County, Jr. may have been my first television boyfriend, and you can see why, because he was a totally sexy cowboy:
Apparently Kelly Rutherford, Mama Van Der Whatever, was on the show as well, which I don't remember at all. The internets tell me that you can
stream this awesome series online (!!!!), so we should all relive this classic of the early 90s together and then squee about it. Ready, set, GO.
The other show I watched as a kid, debuting the same year, was
Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman -- I seem to have enjoyed shows with the word "adventure" in the title. I may have also had a crush on Clark, more so than actually on Clark Kent as Superman, because I didn't like the spandex? You can
watch this one online too, go WB.
So, that's it for now. In the next installment I'll revisit my teenage television-watching years. But until then: Favorite childhood TV shows! Sharing is caring!
