E-mail conversation with my father:
Julia: I finally figured out what to get you for your birthday/father's day. The items are supposed to go out in the mail tomorrow, so you should hopefully get them (all in one package) this weekend or next.
Jim: Good grief! There is no need to get me anything. I've already got everything (that matters).

For me, my Chinese isn't be intellectual or witty, and his English isn't intellectual or witty.
Don't get me wrong. I love my father and we get along rather well in our own way. Just not like that.

After I got my copy, I actually brought it to breakfast to show my parental units when they were visiting. They were intrigued and we avoided spilling syrup on it, so it was a success all-around! I really should buy him his own copy, if only to say, "This photographer said that you need his book!" The fact that it's an amazing concept and collection is a bonus.
My parents are technically gun owners, but I don't think they own any ammunition. My dad has a rifle from when he used to target-shoot as a teenager, they have a rifle that was my maternal grandfather's, and a small - very simplistic - pearl-handled revolver that has been handed down through a few generations of women in my family. That one has the best story. :-)
