Personality III: Trait Theory

Apr 27, 2011 00:56

Another week, another theory of personality: Trait Theory.  Similar to last two weeks’ theories, trait theory believes our personality is the result of interactions between multiple elements. But before I go on, I want to make sure you know what I mean by the word trait. According to Hans Eysenck, a trait is a relatively stable, enduring ( Read more... )

Oh! Nice graph, it can come in handy. Thanks for posting it :)

But there is one point I disagree with. It has leadership listed as Extrovert-Stable when not all leaders are extroverts. That's the only one that really stands out to me as being either wrong...or having a very limited view of what qualities make up leadership.

I agree. All the traits listed in the green triangle would make an effective leader. "Carefree" and leadership don't go together so much, but it is the loudmouths who get the attention. No slight against extroverts intended.

yes, i would agree your disagreement. i do think, however, that introverts will be less likely to jump into a leadership position...or at least a high profile one.

I found it funny that "sober" and "optimism" appear on the side of neurosis.

The chart does ring true to me. When i was younger i was more pink triangle, now i am more green triangle. I simply can't imagine being blue or orange triangle. That would not be me.

Yes, and I can't imagine being on your side. I am an extrovert...to the core. Now, don't get me wrong. I LOVE being away from people. I need to be away from people. And I HATE being the center of attention. It freaks me out. Makes me anxious.

That's interesting. I also hate being the center of attention, so i always thought of it as an introvert trait. People are so much more complex than anything that could fit on a graph! :)

I'm printing this up for easy reference, and sticking it in my "characters" file. Great stuff. Thanks!

I'm glad that it includes both positives and negatives about each type. Too often "introvert" is negative and "extrovert" is positive.

:-) As an extrovert...I assure you it ain't all positive.

Haha. As an introvert, it's definitely not all negative. I love my introvert-ness!
