Erin and Andy go to GenCon

Today was our one-day visit to GenCon.

We arrived in Indianapolis around 7:45 and got registered quick as a wink.  Found a quiet corner to peruse our program books, and watched people.

Indianapolis is very easy to navigate, and the convention center hosting GenCon is frackin' huge.

We found a little table in the center's food court and plopped down, ( Read more... )

I'm debating between GenCon and DragonCon for next year. I've never been to either (I thought I'd been to GenCon, but was mistaken). I suspect I would enjoy GenCon more, though.

And, Protectorate of Menoth? Fanantic! Yay, Cygnar! (The IK game I've been in lately has been one of the most enjoyable RPGs I've played in in awhile.)

I liked GenCon a lot more than I expected I would. It has a lot more going on now than just gaming gaming gaming. Three of the Mythbusters are there this year (and, lest I forget, we saw Kevin Sorbo), the Indianapolis Symphony performed two concerts of music from video games, and more. I always had a blast at DragonCon, too - there's just too much to see, though.

As for the Iron Kingdoms/Warmachine factions ... yeah. Menoth for the great mech designs and kick-ass-for-the-Lord philosophy, Cygnar for the colors and society and government.

I loved Gencon and was really disappointed that we didn't get up there this year.

I share your concerns about Archon. I think that DieCon might roll up to be the heir apparant, but it's still a little too early to say for sure. I don't think that Archon will make it to another "0" anniversary if they adopt the permanant August date.

I'm starting to think that Archon's committee may be getting into the Concave mindset - "We don't want these cruddy gamer kids messing up our pristine writing and filking and panels."

I don't think anybody stays away from Archon because of gaming, but I know plenty that won't go if there's no gaming.

I'll say it only once .. it's a kilt :p

At least I'm man enough to wear one ;)

Anyways, it was good to meet you, even if I wasn't told who you were until afterwards! Gorram Fish.

As for cons changing, I heard a rumour that there would be a lot more PC/console gaming at GenCon '07 to make up for the cutting back of E3. That might makes things very interesting.
