First Snowfall!

There is too much, let me sum up:Moved into the new house about three weeks ago. Got our first snowfall of the season today! (Photo up on Facebook for those connected there.) The roads are clear, but we expect continuous snowfall throughout the day, so since my company has a very liberal policy about working from home, I decided to stay in today. I ( Read more... )

The TV show is, as far as I've seen, a very faithful adapation to the book, but I've enjoyed reading the books MUCH more than watching the show.

I've been very impressed with the growth of the characters as the series progresses, and continually find myself surprised at who my "new favorites" become.

I started in April, and haven't been able to put the series down. Luckily, the books are massive, so even though there are "only" two books left, I know they'll last me a good while.

Don't ask me how I managed to post anonymously to my own account. If you get double email on this comment, I apologize!

Nice to hear from you! I just mentioned you on Facebook the other day, actually. I decided to get out of my Gala apple rut and deliberately try some other types. Someone recommended Pink Lady apples, and I referenced how highly you recommend them, so I keep my eye out for the 10 minutes a year they're in season!

I'm only 200 pages into Game of Thrones so far. I've heard others echo your point that the TV series does a good job remaining faithful to the books. My goodness, they're so incredibly detailed in terms of minute characterization, however, how could anything but a 10-year long series possibly encompass all this?! Seems to me like they have a big job of saying a lot with just a little air time. I really look forward to it.

The TV series is quiet faithful to the first book with the caveat that they knocked out some details and minor interactions, and wrote in a few brief scenes to explain things wherever this causes a hole in things.
Yes, you miss some things by only watching the series instead of reading the books. Its kind of like a Reader's Digest version. But, a picture is sometimes actually worth a thousand words.

The character development and growth in sweep of the series is amazing. We watch as people grow and change and are influenced both for good and evil, strong and weak, by the sum of their experiences. I find it totally fascinating. The scope of the medieval fantasy/nobility backdrop magnifies these character traits, much as many LARPS did for us.

Congrats on the house, and on getting to stay in your chosen location! Best of luck with the settling in and job hunts!

Sorry to be so long responding. I sort of fell off of LJ for the past few days. Sounds like things are good. I didn't even realize you were moving in so quickly. That's fantastic. Congratulations on the new home.
