I've been a terrible slacker and have not yet shared with everyone the super awesome treasure of our wedding portrait! I commissioned this as a first anniversary present from me to Ian. It's done by Gail Cali at Elephant Tree Art who is \m/ awesome \m/, and who listened to me, was open to questions and requests, totally patient, and whose work is ( Read more... )

That's awesome. I love the sunflowers in the background. I don't recall. Were there sunflowers in the original? That is a really beautiful portrayal of you. I don't know Ian to say the same for him, but that's a great Trace. Congratulations on this.

It's a great likeness of both of us. I really enjoy how Gail made our faces very detailed and lifelike, and yet managed to keep her trademark impressionist style through the rest of the painting.

There were no sunflowers in the original photo, just a rather wide backdrop of Spanish moss. The painter said the Spanish moss was coming out sort of wonky in the painting, so she substituted by beloved sunflowers, and what I like to think are snapdragons... I don't know if they're intended to be snapdragons, but I love those, so I've decided that's what they are!

Thank you for your kind compliments!

I'll be honest, I have a tendency to sneak either snapdragons, hyacinths, and/or various similar flowering stalks into pictures, because I LOVE them, and snapdragons are my favorite! :) I thought they would be nice just for adding color. :)

My mama used to make them "snap" at me when I was very little so I associate them with happy memories. :)
