Thanksgiving on the Gulf Coast

Dec 01, 2008 09:38

Ian and I joined his parents and maternal grandparents in Gulf Shores, Alabama for Thanksgiving. His parents have a condo right on the beach -- it was incredible. Sounds like it was a good weekend!

I can't believe that Ian is graduating in less than two weeks. It seems like it was just a few months ago that I was reading about you making the move to Texas for him to start at Guildhall, and now he is almost done! Time certainly flies!

Thank you for the acknowledgement on how oddly indeed time has flown here! It seems as if it were an eternity in the planning and now... it's over?? Already?? Time does indeed fly when you're in Texas. ;)

After reading this, I did a quick back-of-the-envelope calculation for my own income/expense ratio and I came out aroun 56% of net - which does not include the money socked away into TSP (15%) or direct deposit into my MMDA (5%).

It's a nice tool as I consider the new furnace purchase and perhaps replacing my old car...a new car payment would push me over the ratio. Anything that gives one pause - to think, to plan, to evaluate - before spending money is a good thing!

I'm sorry if I'm being dense, what are TSP (...stock plan?) and MMDA? Money Market Deposit Account?

TSP = Thrift Savings Plan (The Fed Gov't 401K)
MMDA = u got it right. :)

I looked up the book and purt it on reserve at the library so I can see what other gems may be written there.

Not excessively gem-filled, but since I know you enjoy this particular flavor of nerdiness, it's certainly worth a free read from the library.
