Dallas has wonderful storms. Since 11:30 this morning, the sky has been black as night here. This is the perfect backdrop for me to finally start reading that Lovecraft book I picked up at the library last week. I read two (very) short stories at lunch, "In The Vault," and "Pickman's Model." Yay for liking it. You know, I should have pointed out that I do enjoy his short stories. If I recall, now that you've given your impression, what drove me batty in at least one of his longer stories was just how long it took the voice of the story to realize what was apparent by then. So maybe it wasn't really his writing so much as my impatience!

That's an interesting point. I'll let you know what I think when I get to the longer ones.

I can give them a little credit since the characters, I presume, do not have the benefit of a catalog of horror movies behind them. If you've never stood up in a crowded theatre and shouted, "DON'T GO IN THE BASEMENT!!!" it's hard to really grasp the full reality of such a situation, I'd think.
