"I have one job in this guild. It's stupid, but I'm going to do it!"

Spent my 4-day weekend LARPing at SOLAR, the last for me before the move - and therefore also probably the last until autumn. Once settled in Texas, I plan to check out NERO DFW. NPCing will be free and hopefully a nice way to meet some people. Still, filed under last week's "I'm getting too old for this shit" is the determination that I really, ( Read more... )

My last encounter with superglue involved a call to poison control and the loss of all the eyelashes of my right eye!

And, oddly enough, I think I even know who Constance is. How weird is that.

It's been so long that you may not recall that we were "introduced" on LiveJournal by our mutual acquaintance. Not weird at all!

I have never before used Super Glue in my life. I read the instructions and was indeed terrified this would quickly devolve from Experiment to Poison Control Center to National Guard. Frankly I'm just impressed I didn't end up glued to the steering wheel of my car. :)

Ironic since summer is my favorite season

I thought spring was your favorite season. "Everything is alive and growing!" ;)

Spring used to be my favorite season, but that has either changed in the years, or my perception of it has changed. I finally realized that what I love most about spring is the transition from winter to summer. It's kind like how my favorite part of Christmas is not the day but the season in anticipation of it. Spring is the prelude to summer, which indeed I love best.

That, and the Mother Fucking Yellow Pollen of Death here in the South has really put a damper on my love of spring. :)

Glad you had a good time at the event. It's interesting that you mention Clanthia was your first LARP in Georgia in 1992. It was also my first full LARP weekend in Georgia, and also in 1992.

My first event was the event that Jacques got obliterated. Strangely, almost every person I've dated or had a serious crush on in the last fifteen years was at that event. I'm sure that's some kind of mysterious karma, but I'll be darned if I can figure it out. You know, I should add that to the Dating Criteria question series (For clarification, all answers should be "no"):

1. Are you married?
2. Are you gay?
3. Do you have children?
4. Do you have any communicable diseases?
5. Were you at the event that Jacques was obliterated?

I don't think I've dated anyone who was at that event in about 7 years... and yet, creepy, natch I can look back and say that I've also dated a few who were there! It also made me stop and consider that Ian is the first man I've dated in 15 years who didn't prefer to play fighters, and whose preferred boffer weapon fighting style I couldn't name. This discussion is now seriously creeping me out on geek fronts and I think I'll move on away from my own lovelife!

Wasn't Jacques obliterated in early 1993? We went down there en masse from Ravenholt in November 1992 and Jacques was still alive when we left. I thought I recalled that being later, like late 1993 or early 1994. Coulda been a year earlier, though. I recall the night Jacques resurrected in Ravenholt, but I can't even think of what campsite it was. I remember Jay visiting in April 1994, though.

Odd, odd, that indeed many of us, even living 1,000 miles away from one another, can drop a milestone in our lives from Jacques' obliteration!

Okay, I asked Fox. He clarified for me that apparently your first event when Jacques got Obliterated was the next one right after we came down. That clears it up!

So I'm misremembering the date completely. Crap! Oh, well.

I know that my first event in Clanthia was the summer of '92 (and was evidently not the event that Jacques was Obliterated). I know it was summer '92 because it was the summer before my last year of college. And it was early-ish summer because I ended up dating a dude whom I met at the event for the rest of the summer.

Anyway, it's still true that most of the men I've dated/crushed/whatevered over the last 15 years were at the event Jacques bit the dust. Even my ex-husband (who wasn't a larper) was briefly at that event to drop of supplies because he was helping out some of his larper friends with something. Hence why I should really move to Albania to find the love of my life.

I believe this is what you wished for?

I just received it myself within the past hour. Now you've saved me the trouble of posting it, however. Thank you so much!
