TURBO_RUMBLE CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE PRIMER

WELCOME TO turbo_rumble's 17TH ROUND: CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE!

For this round, you will find your themes by making your way through a Choose Your Own Adventure story written by yours truly! This round is a little complicated--even I got confused when I was writing, to be honest--so I've written up a little introductory primer to hopefully answer some questions that may come up. If your questions aren't answered here, please drop me a comment so I can help you out!

Please remember that you need to be signed up for Round 17 in order to participate. Sign ups are open until the round ends.

HISTORY:
- Here's the wiki for the Choose Your Own Adventure genre.
- The story is written entirely in second person.
- You get to choose all your paths during the story.
- and as a result, there are several different endings your story path can lead you to.

QUICK FAQ:
- You only have to make 6 icons.
- Reading the story is not necessary to complete the round. If you'd rather not suffer through my creative writing, feel free to skip reading the whole arc and just take the theme from each story stage.
- YOU MUST ONLY USE THE THEMES GIVEN TO YOU BY YOUR OWN STORY PROGRESSION. This is part of the fun! Try to resist the urge to skip around and peek at all the other story arcs/themes, and just take what your fate dictates you.
- Themes will be inspired by the section of the story they correspond to and will have the option for you to use it as an interpretative theme or a technical theme depending on your preference.

PROGRESSION:
- Each icon will be inspired by a corresponding theme which you will discover as you move forward in the story.
- Each stage of the story will give you two choices. Making a choice will direct you to the next stage of the story and thus your next theme.
- There is an exception to the above statement. As is true to form with CYOA novels, in some cases you will find yourself in a situation where the story only presents one option. IN this case, you simply follow that one instead of choosing between two.
- Everyone participating needs to begin HERE with the story introduction.
- There are a total of SIX story stages which means no matter which route you take in the story, you will end up with six themes to correspond to your six required icons.

CONSTRUCTION:
- At the end of each story stage, you will be presented with two options.
-Each option will contain a jump link.
- Choose which option you want to continue your story and click the corresponding link to be directed to the next story stage.
- Each story stage will contain the continuation of the story, the theme that corresponds with it, the few icon examples to inspire you, and also the options/jump links that carry you to the next story stage.
- Remember, if the story only presents one option for your story stage--as these are sprinkled throughout especially toward story arc ends--then you simply follow that link to get to your next story stage.

WARNINGS:
- There is a route in the story that includes options that lead to drowning. If this is a trigger for you, [then click this spoiler tag to get a hint at what route not to choose; if you have no issues with drowning, keep the fun alive and skip reading this]please avoid the magical lake route and/or simply avoid going into the water at the magical lake.
- There are a few endings in which the protagonist meets a less than ideal end. This is typical for Choose Your Own Adventures, and I felt it was only proper to stick to the genre's tradition.

WHAT TO DO IF...
- I click a link and it takes me nowhere/gives me an error.
Please let me know asap as this should not happen. I will do my best to fix dead links as soon as I possibly can! If you receive an error, it is likely that it's just LJ being weird. Try refreshing the page. If this doesn't fix the issue, check LJ STATUS or DOWNRIGHTNOW or somewhere similar to see if it's a LJ wide problem.

- Livejournal is down across the board and no one can access LJ for anything.
If the past is any indication, LJ adores doing this smack dab in the middle of T-R. Usually it waits until the voting period, but if it hits during submission time, I will be made aware. A mirror of the story/themes will go up on our Dreamwidth account here as soon as I get a chance to do so. There will likely be an extension as well to accommodate the disruption.
