I have a feeling you are more informed on this area than I am.
What is your opinion on international volunteering programs (as a concept)?
I'm considering something of the sort but I don't know anybody with first-hand experience. I'm mainly wondering if these programs actually help these communities, as opposed to being just gratification for first-world volunteers.
Yesterday, the managing partners of my firm told me that they were laying off two of our staff members. I'm now a legal assistant and receptionist to ten attorneys without any additional support staff. I was horrified by the daunting job they'd given me and extremely sad to see fellow employees go.
Oh damn. I thought I was commenting on a tqc post. Oops. I keep forgetting that I joined anon. (By the by, I've been a member of anon since nearly its inception...I've just been very much off LJ for the past few months.)
If sad can count as upset, when my boss told me that she's taking a 6 o 12 week break from work because her husband's cancer and dementia are robbing him of his life too fast. She is guaranteed to have a job with the same pay after 12 weeks, but it isn't for sure that it'll be in the same place.
I can't think of anything specifically that someone told me that made me happy, I'm pretty happy in general all the time.

May I ask you a completely unrelated question?
