Diesel engine was first designed to run on peanut oil.

With enough compression pressure the darnedest stuff will reach a combustion point.

The early fuel injection systems were mechanical much like the diesels systems, adjusted for engine speed.
The micro computer made the electronic fuel injection possible, which adjusts for many more inputs.

After 250,000 miles and 15 years the spring mount rusted and tore off the frame.
That was a safety feature. The spring mount rusted through before the main frame.
Time to decommission that vehicle. The tires were still good.
Now what do I have ? I still need to get to work. There is not a bus route down every street.
