Is it true that supporting the TwilightMary-Sue books/movies lends money to the Mormons in their fight against Prop 8 in CA? Since I've heard there was a underlying tone of the Mormon religion in the theme and all. Even so, I have no desire to read the books, for I think if I did, the ESL teacher in me would be snatching at red pens to correct the ( Read more... )

I have only read the first three "So You Want to be a Wizard" series. I know I loved the first one and liked the second two. I also like the cat wizard series by Diane Duane which is set in the same universe. KITTIES!

I'm glad to hear you found a HAZWOPER class to take. Good luck with that.

One of my other friends mentioned the Cat-series too, so I may have to check that out when I get more time after this semester.

If you are interested in taking the class as well, I can give you the link. It's somewhat close to you, being in Kalamazoo(near the IN state line) and all.

*lol* It's really really easy to miss any kind of Mormon subtext in Twilight. Of course, the fandom doesn't really care, and the anti-fandom doesn't think she even realizes she stuck it in there. It's a bit (er, lots) anti-feminist though. XD I don't think she realized that either.

(Go read R.Pattinson's interviews sometimes...hilarious! Best thing ever to happen cause of fandom. He calls S. Meyers an insane woman who decided to publish sekrit sex fantasies.) *lul*

I read Twilight...honestly I got nothing Mormon out of it, but I didn't look.

Go find Death Note...go now! Neurotic, super intelligent detective compels you. (disregard this message if you've already seen it and did or didn't like it).

Ahhhhhhhh...

Well I thought I wouldn't like it for the longest time. I missed out on much of the hype so I'm relieved about that.

I kind of doubt that the Twilight series gives money to any cause other than the writing of more stories with sparkly vampires. Especially since there was apparently an internet campaign to have people return their copies of the latest book... XD;;;

So You Want to Be a Wizard was revelatory when I first read it and it's still always enjoyable to see the characters (I'm still waiting for NitaxKit...) and the concepts she throws at you. I think I've outgrown it a bit though. But the Dresden Files are great! How far have you read?

It snowed here yesterday too, btw.

I heard about that, all while I was happily reading 'Small Favor'. ^_^ So far I've read all the books out, the short stories that are put out online as well as even the Thomas story 'Backup'. Can't wait til 'Turn Coat' comes out, the summary sounds really good.

In terms of the 'Wizard' books, I'm halfway through 'High Wizardry', though I've had to put it down temporarily because my professors are heaping homework on us before the semester ends. -_-

We're losing the snow we got a few days ago, though the next few days we may get some more.
