This in and of itself isn't strange. The chef often drops by after working through the latest cookbook or fantasy novel that's attracted his attention. Some of his off-days from the restaurant have been spent behind a pile of books that would make Robin proud.
Which is fitting in its irony, that she's the exact reason he slides himself through the shelves of books today. Just on the off-chance. He has no idea if his guess will be right, but if she's anything like her adult self...
It's worth looking. Even if he's wrong, that means one less place to look]

You really think so, huh?
But you're right. Everyone lies, even when they don't mean or want to. [He folds his arms] Maaah, I shouldn't be making promises I can't keep.
Reply
You shouldn't.
[She nods again]
But I bet you'd keep the promises you did make if they were important, ne, Sanji-san?
Reply
Of course. I have things and people I want to protect. [Relationships he wants to salvage]

Why do you want to talk to me so much? Were before-times really that special? [She can't believe they were. They couldn't be if she was changed. They had to be terrible somehow.]

It's Robin's dismissal of the past that hurts the most. The chef's smile nearly aches]
You being with us are some of the best memories I have the honor of remembering.

After she gets some composure, though, her fingers tighten over the book.]
That's not true. I was reborn because I was unhappy. He wouldn't take me away and change me if I was happy. That's what being reborn means. That's why . Don't say things like that.

And I was happy having you as my nakama. [No amount of protesting will ever change those words]
Reply
I guess I wasn't... [A frown. Even though it doesn't make sense.] But you seem really nice. I'm sure you were a lot of fun.
Reply
Oi, did you know? I'm a world-class chef! [he points to his chest proudly] So if you're ever hungry, I'll make you whatever you want!

[Before she can dwell on that too much Sanji-san speaks again.]
Wow, really? [He's even cooler than she thought! She would like some good food but all she's really supposed to eat is strange tasting porridge...but she knows better than to accept food from before-times people. Still she can't help but be interested.]
You don't look like a chef. They're supposed to wear big hats and aprons and things. [She takes a moment to find the picture in a book and shows it to him.] And also a mustache...but I guess your beard would sort of work for that.
[She looks at the picture of the middle-aged chef and then at him again]
I guess you look old enough.

Sounds like the shithead geezer who trained me. He has a mustache almost as long as his body. [He fancies her with a smile] But it's what's on the inside that's important. Anyone can be a chef if they've got the training and creativity to match.
Maybe you'd like a demonstration sometime?

Maybe he'll come in Luceti one day. [It would be fun meeting someone who looks that weird. She's a little surprised though that everyone can be a chef. Doesn't it take someone really special to be able to do something like that?
As for watching him... She really shouldn't. But she wants to see exactly what a world class chef does...]
Okay. But I'm not going to eat anything.
[For one, he'd get really mad. For another...he might do something funny to the food.]
Reply
... Despite the surprised face he shoots at her]
Why not? [He leans against the table again] Food is meant to be eaten with the eyes and the mouth, after all, Robin-chan. [And it doesn't feel right, cooking something she won't be able to savor twice]
Reply
He says not to trust you, so I won't.
[Much]
Reply
I wouldn't consider myself a chef if I messed with a young lady's food. [Or any food, for that matter]
But since Robin-chan doesn't trust me, I won't force the issue. [For now.]
