He might've confessed to having rumblings about scoping out the nutso-goddess all on his lonesome. And I might've put a foot down. But he might not've bothered listening.

Oh my god, I can't leave any of you people alone for five minutes! [ seriously, how do any of you function without her. ] Fine, I'll keep an eye on him and employ both wiles and psychical violence if necessary to keep him from doing something stupid.
[ it should be noted that if jack and archie ever spoke about the summers sisters like this and were found out, heads would roll. ah, hypocrisy. ]

[ very dramatically. and uselessly. ]
Until we're out of the proverbial crisis woods, me and Jack are playing this one about ten levels beyond discrete. [ not quite as emotionally brutal as the long con that brought you let's-trick-faith-into-thinking-angelus-is-free but a few notches nearby.
but finally, buffy owns up to something that she has not actually verbalized to anyone else involved -- although they all have their suspicions: ] The plan is for me to confront her before Jack can. This is the best plan available and also a super top secret plan.

Research. [ but she hastens to add: ] The passive, non-investigatory kind. I don't want to turn around and see you playing Natasha-the-Russian-Spy and getting any face-to-face recon with the big bad.
We need a solution that's a little more elegant than hacking-her-till-she's-dead, 'cause they come back from that here.

Vud haf verked if not for moose and squirrel. [ that was some impressive deadpan there, dawn. ]
So, okay. MySpace stalking, do discreet recon, don't get dead and find things to do to her that aren't blunt force trauma to the head plus slicing and dicing, got it.
[ action, june 2nd ]slayingJune 3 2011, 17:52:41 UTC
[ a fraction of a smile; she loves you, dawn. she loves you so much. no one else in this god damned village speaks this language like you do. it's a relief. ]
All I know is that she's a -- handy with a chainsaw, b -- previously attempting and now failing to keep a low profile, and c -- seriously into the mind games. I have no sweet clue what Jack did to attract her seriously creepy attentions and I'm really preferring that bit of blissful ignorance.

[ maybe to outsiders this kind of flippancy can make them seem frivolous, like two girls just pretending to be warriors and showing the cracks; but this is sunnydale armor at its best. it's part 'look at my right hand so you can't see what my left is doing', combined with a healthy dose of 'if we're all going to die, at least we'll go out in style'. ]
Okay, so stay away from power tools, recon shouldn't be that hard, and same old, same old from the creepy villain playbook. Also I'm refusing to speculate because I'm pretty sure whatever it was, I don't want to know either.

He was so scared...[ indeed, it's moments like this where the cracks show. when buffy's voice looses the jokey-steel and crumbles into a kind of confused desperation. remembering jack in the back room of good spirits -- shaking, terrified. and she had hugged him and it had been a first and maybe that was when all of this complication found its way into her heart.
one, two, three and back to basics:] The protective charm on the house is mojo-wired into this. [ she holds up her arm, showing off a bracelet. ] I think it's supposed to buzz or glow or otherwise be alarming in some way if Grell tries to get into the house. Jilly's there alone. But you're on official Stand By duty -- if I get the call and can't take the message, I'm hitting you up on the journals. First thing.
[ you're her last line, dawn. this is a big deal. and while it may be cheapened by the fact that the other big guns are out on the draft with her, the truth still remains...this is a scoobies-level order. inclusive. trusting. not underestimating

Jack? [ dawn can't stop herself from saying it; jack has always seemed on the crazy side of unflappable, and if he's terrified then this situation just took on an even more serious cast. ]
I get to be key girl? You never let me be key girl, I feel like there should be streamers. Or a commemorative plaque. [ but she reaches over and squeezes buffy's wrist; saying without words i have this, i won't let you down. ]

I'm not gonna die. [ after a tight squeeze, buffy steps back -- holding her sister at arm's length and falling back upon the old habit of rearranging this or that strand of hair. always fussing. ] I'm not allowed to. It's this whole pact thing. Jack and I are tied at two and I might've lost the plot somewhere in the middle but I think the first person to three loses.
