Field trip!

Metody's alarm went off a bit after sunset, shrieking him to a slow, dragging state that might pass for 'awake'.  He slapped it off, irritated at being woken - he preferred his ten hours of sleep to be all in one block, thank you - and dragged himself to the kitchen to make a snack ( Read more... )

Ellis himself was a bit yawny at the moment, sunset being his dawn, but nodded amiably towards Metody as he moseyed generally kitchenwards.

Then a slightly delayed blink for the invitation.

During their visit, the group of them had largely stayed inside, relaxing, spending what Ellis supposed was called 'family time' not that he'd know. The thought of going out for a leg stretch was appealing.

"Sure," he said cheerfully, and stepped closer crossing his arms atop the open refrigerator door. "I am a valuable carrier of grocery bags, 'm told. Least I can do you puttin' up with us an' playin' host an' such."

A thoughtful beat of a pause, then Ellis asked, "Is what 'm wearin' alright for public consumption?"

Never mind the door was technically blocking Metody's view at the moment.

He closed the door and studied him.

"The jacket's a bit heavy for this weather, but that's fine. Um. With your coloring, people are going to think you're from Steel City, so modest clothing isn't going to be, you know, freakishly weird." Especially with Ellis' apparent age. Most older people dressed just like younger people here, but there was a sizable contingent that became more modest as gravity took its toll.

Metody himself was wearing plaid pajama bottoms and a t-shirt. He ambled about the kitchen a moment, looking for his shoes, before he found them under the table.

"It's only a few blocks, but it'll be a nice walk. It's a pretty evening out there."

And it was. The sky of Metody's world glowed by night, lit from millions of phosphorescent creatures - shining jellyfish, rainbow spotted night fish, tangles of drifting tentacles, great swarms of insects and something that looked like a flying carpet made out of light, all high, high up in the sky, just beneath the clouds. Tonight, the sky shone.

"Alrighty then, long as I don't stick out like too unusual. Steel City, huh. So we are from th' same area, so to speak?"

Ellis already had his own shoes on, fancy wingtips. Metody seemed ready so Ellis moved to the front door and opened it, craning his head back at the radiant glow that filled the heavens. Like as if you had multiple full moons broken up into bits and just wandering around overhead.

"Now that is somethin' you don't see every day," he murmured half to himself, then realized how dumb that would sound to a native. "....unless you live here in which case I guess you do see it every day. Well, every night."

A practical consideration impugned on his admiration of the luminescent sky, prompted by his having seen Metody in what he was pretty sure were just pajama bottoms. "Say, you got your wallet or bag or whatever, Mister Met?"

He thought they used money. Wasn't entirely sure.

"Yeah. You can be born other places - we've got New Orleans too, if you want - but once you've lived in Steel City for a few years, that's where you from. Especially, ah, if you end up kind of pale ( ... )
