Elijah doesn't believe in second chances and, even if he did, he is certain he used his up centuries ago.

Elena gave him a second chance, and he betrayed her.

He does not deserve a third chance and yet...

And yet she gives it to him.

When he comes alive in the shipping crate to see her face staring down at him, Elijah is not sure what is going to happen. He expects rage and contempt, but instead she hands him a bag of blood and carefully catalogues all which has happened since Klaus planted the dagger in his chest.

After a month of working alongside her, he finally asks, "Why are you trusting me again?"

Elena sighs, shrugging with one shoulder. "Because I need your help."

"Needing something from me and trusting me are two very different things."

Thank you for filling another one of my prompts! This is great <3 Something about this reminds me of their little talk in The Last Day; it has that sort of honesty and emotional intimacy their conversations usually have. Grr, Elena had better find out about Elijah in s3 and pull the dagger out!
