Props to Donors Choose!

Awhile back Live Journal partnered with a group called Donors Choose and offered "gift certificates" to make a donation on their site. The site matches donors with teachers who have projects they need funded. You can search by area, or the type of school, or the subject, whatever. I did not receive anything except a thank you from Donor's Choose. Nothing from the teacher. Bummer.

But that has not turned me off the giving. I think its a great idea for a charity.
I gave to the elementary school closest to where my family is from and where we would have gone had the family not moved to look for better work. Its one of those with a 90% free lunch pop.

But what I like about it is the individualness of it. You obviously hit a great teacher who is really involved.

Yeah, I guess response varies from one teacher to the next. I don't think I ever heard anything the first time I participated.

This school is in Conover, NC, and is 58% low-income. The teacher still has other open projects, so I was wondering if I would stick with her again, or look for a project closer to home (a Charlotte city school). Or just something totally different, like a school on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota.
