It looks like my laptop is on it's last leg. It crashed twice this week, and just now it froze and the only way I could force a shutdown was to take out the battery. ncix forums (and youtube channel for assembly how-tos) are really good for help with that. Even if you don't live in Canada, you can find out what are the best pieces in your price range, compatibility restrictions, etc...and then go do your actual shopping on newegg. There will always be at least one - probably several- thread on the forums by someone looking for guidance with a build in your budget and intended for your purposes. If not you can just start one yourself, they seem to love helping first timers. newegg has forums too but they don't seem as helpful ( ... )

Newegg's video series has been a good starting point for me, though I haven't delved into the specifics of which pieces I'll need and I'm expecting to need plenty of guidance for that, so yaaaay helpful forums. Ncix's PC builder thing is cool! I want to make a proper project out of it and do the assembling myself. Hehe, re: static, I already read one article where the comment section had a debate on whether or not building in your undies can prevent static issues.

Yes. :D At least my laptop dying means I can finally get an actual gaming machine and get to shootin some pixels.
