i think you really ought to throw a fit, refuse to shave, and tell everyone to screw continuity. if you're going to make a film you ought to at least act entitled.

The answer, of course, is to keep the beard, and pretend like bearded Dave is actually a completely new character. Make no reference to clean-shaven Dave, act like there's no physical resemblance whatsoever, and carry on.

An alternate possibility is to try to film it in such a way as it seems both Daves are on the trip together. I know for a fact this is possible, because I remember an episode of Perfect Strangers in which Balky's cousin came to visit him, and both parts were played by Bronson Pinchot.

A second alternate possibility is to keep the beard and have Bronson Pinchot play clean-shaven Dave. I'm pretty sure he's available.
