Buck had walked out of Eliza's hospital room and went to grab a cup of crappy hospital coffee, he hadn't been sleeping at all, and it showed on his face. He tried to, but when he closed his eyes, he let his mind wonder to what he would do when he found the guy who had left his fiancee for dead after hitting her. He was thankful that she was breathing on her own, but he was still concerned that she hadn't woken up yet.
After grabbing the cup of crappy coffee he made his way back into her room, and sat it down on the table, after taking a sip of it. He then went back to the position he had, holding her hand, as much as he could without it hurting her, and then his head resting on her bed. He'd whisper into her ear and that's what he was doing at this moment.
"Eliza, wake up... I love you..." he would repeat, over and over. "Please wake up..."
The heartbeat monitor faltered, then the pace picked up and Eliza gasped, gagging uncomfortably on the tube going through her nose and down the back of her throat. Her hand tensed around Buck's, though she wasn't aware it was his. She didn't know what was going on and her breathing was rapid as she looked around in confusion at the ceiling. "Buck!" she called out hoarsely, coughing at the unusual feeling of the tube.
Buck was sitting there, his hand around her's as he continued to whisper to her, and then he thought he felt something on his hand, and then he thought he heard her talk, his head popped up and he looked at her. "Eliza..." he looked at her, and stood up slightly wanting to hug her, or kiss her, or something, but he couldn't do that right now. He looked at her, as she laid there, and pulled closer to her and kissed her cheek as his other hand hit the call button for the nurse to come in. "I'm so happy you're awake.."
Eliza stared at him, wanting to ask what was going on, but thinking that it might hurt. Instead she laid against him as he kissed her. Happy she was awake? What had happened? A nurse came in, prying her away from Buck and she realized she was in a hospital and that made her want to let go of him even less. Her eyes turned to his, pleading to make it stop.
"Dear me, you're finally awake," she said, and then removed tape from Eliza's cheek, leaving a sharp sting. "Just let me get this out. When I say three I want you to cough." Eliza did as the woman instructed if only so she could get back to Buck. After checking her vitals the nurse smiled. "I'll send the doctor in soon."
Eliza looked back at Buck once the door shut, wanting water and him. She made a 'W' with her fingers and moved it against her mouth, hoping he might understand, her throat hurt too badly to actually try speaking again. She was actually fairly fluent in sign language, having grown up with a girl who was deaf.
