I liked Keller's fantasy of how it would be when Toby came for him, finally; the things that Keller took for his own in relation to Toby; the allusions to drowning, weighing the choice of Oz or Hell, needling Sister Pete. Great Keller headspace, and I like the lyricism of your writing. I wasn't sure how much time had passed between Toby leaving and the last section, though, which was a little jarring for how I was meant to interpret things, if that makes sense? I'd hoped there would be a reconnection to Keller-in-Oz at the end (or maybe there was and I'm dense ;) Anywho - well done. I liked this very much.

I get what you mean about the passage of time toward the end--in my head I was picturing Keller somewhere in his sixties, but in re-reading that section I can see that I didn't exactly give a whole lot of clues to indicate as much to readers. While writing it I kept going back and forth on whether to include at least one more section before the final one to make the transition less jarring, but I was afraid it would come across as filler--probably made the wrong decision there. >.<

There are definitely clues; I just wasn't sure if Keller was being his usual deprecating, dramatic self (woe! no one wants in my pants!) or if there had been a significant time shift.

My heart is on the floor in itty bitty pieces. Gorgeous writing! You made me feel sorry for Keller, when he is so completely in the wrong. His fantasy that Toby would one day come for him so pathetic and poignant. Keller losing himself, going from a lion to a pale shadow of himself, an old man, was just so sad.

You hit all the right notes. Wonderful!
