potcfest fic: The surgeon and the pirate

My effort for round 2 of potcfest - #54, Jack Sparrow - Jack (perhaps with the help of the Fountain of Youth) survives to meet Stephen Maturin (crossover with Master and Commander/the Aubrey/Maturin books). Actually I'm not all that thrilled with how it came out - it was going to be all action-filled and it turned into a chat and more of a character piece ( Read more... )

there was something about this Sparrow that did not sit very well on land.

Sharp eye, Stephen!

This was thoroughly enjoyable. I haven't read much of the Aubrey-Maturin novels, and the hints you give of some of their adventures are very intriguing.

A lovely read for a Wednesday morning! Many thanks.

You should read more of them, they're excellent - and each one ends on a cliffhanger!! Glad you enjoyed it. :)

You're right, I should. Are you going to post this on BP Sails, btw? It would be a nice one for the website (which I need to update more -- so much still to post there).

Heh. I was worried someone would say it should be longer. :) There's a possibility Captain Sparrow may run into Admiral Aubrey at some point, maybe ...

A very lovely read, though I haven't read any of The Master And Commander series. Good diction and a nice little slice of Jack's future ever-ongoing life :D.

Whatta coincidence -- I just watched Master and Commander last week, for the first time, actually.

Lovely story; great characterizations and clever details!

I especially liked Jack's "curiously direct dark eyes" -- aye, that they are ;)

What did you think of the film? It's a pretty good attempt at the books, though they mix up all the plots somewhat! Thanks for commenting.

I haven't read the books (at least not yet), so I can't compare the film to them, but as a film... 'twas ok. I have this morbid fascination in the history of surgery & medicine, so I was very glad Mr. Maturin was in such a prominent role in it (but many other characters stayed a bit "thin" -- maybe, if you had read the books, you would've gotten more out of the film too)...
