I've been using ING now for a 3? years and they seem to have the best rates. No problems so far.

ooh i didn't realize they did banking... thought they were just 401(k)/retirement company but will definitely check it out since the traditional banks are not doing me much of a favor with these pathetic rates

Doug's had ING for goodness knows how many years and loves them. I recommend some sort of local bank with no-fee checking for your local banking needs, and put as much of your money into ING as you can. Their savings account (REGULAR savings, not CD) is at 1.00% and their checking is actually pretty good as long as you don't mind not having a checkbook (I don't actually need one, but that's what the local bank is for anyway.)

Take a look: https://home.ingdirect.com/products/products.asp

I'm going to send you a referral right now--it gives us both some free money! ETA: sent!

ETA2: American Express is offering 1.15%, but the website is difficult to use and the service SLOW. ING, at least, is clear about what you can expect when you want to do things. Amex is pretty user-unfriendly.

ETA3: http://helpcenter.ingdirect.com/? <-- ING's FAQs. They're pretty clear!

♥ Free money is always good! Ask if you ever have any questions--between Doug and myself, we've put both types of accounts to the test. ^_^
