And I formally request the Doctor Who diatribe, in it's own post, so I can post all sorts of Icons in the comments as I refute your points and convince you that Doctor Who is actually he greatest TV since sliced electrons began sending pictures into houses.
I'm not saying *some* of it isn't. I'm just saying a broad sweeping generalization of *all* isn't fair either. What about Hereos? Its not my favorite show "ever", but its pretty darn good

Heroes has gone down hill, but was a good show, but it gets pwned by stuff like BSG or Farscape (both Australian).
(And I'll admit it's not an 'all or nothing thing', but generally speaking, British TV is higher quality.)
1.) I thought so too, but it actually was that good. Still, you've got a good point, it's pretty built up. (Twilight, however, I heard sucked from the get go

I think I'm just intimidated by amount of stuff about it, not so much its rigidity. Case in point: The BBC themselves published the History of the Daleks, and at the bottom of that page, they have a link tha says 'Until the Doctor did his thing in "The Genesis of the Daleks", which takes you to a whole second page with a revised history. See where it can be a bit overwhelming?
You can download it if you'd like, but it will be a looong time til I get around to watching it. Its decidedly low on the priority scale.
You are very right about british television. For every one good series, there are 10 that are forgettable... much like american TV.
Also, Extras was a mutt of a show. It was coproduced for BBC and HBO, so it was neither wholey British nor American. They actually did multiple takes of certain scenes, doing a "British" joke in one and then replacin it with a "American" joke in the next take.

Did you see Hot Fuzz? I didn't think I'd enjoy that but I was in tears by the end.

I haven't seen the latest, "How to Lose Friends & Alienate People". Have you seen it yet? Or "Run, Fatboy, Run".
