[RL WITH JACK AND TEN]

Ianto sat behind his desk in the tourist office, his feet up on a chair he'd pulled up beside him. He idly clicked through the various processes the Hub server was up to. The only real point of interest on the CCTV in the Hub was Janet, stalking back and forth in her cell down on the lower levels. Everything else was rather quiet. Jack was down in ( Read more... )

The Doctor, meanwhile, had already stepped out of the TARDIS, humming a little tune to himself as he stuck his hands in his pockets. Well, Jack had told him to hang around the square for a bit, and that was exactly what he planned on doing - he didn't fancy walking into Torchwood and having guns pointed at him. Despite what Jack had told him about the organisation being reformed, he still couldn't help feeling some prejudice towards them.

Still, Ianto seemed alright, he thought to himself idly, and it had been a while since he'd seen Jack properly. He was just wondering how long the man was going to keep him waiting for when he caught a glimpse of a very neat-looking man in a suit in the square where there had previously been none.

Face breaking into a smile, he raised his hand in greeting. "Hello!" he called cheerily. "You must be Ianto. Nice to meet you properly."

Ianto saw the Doctor before the Doctor had spotted him. He knew what to expect from the video that had been broadcast into the Hub on the day the Earth had been stolen, so he recognized the face. The question was, would the face recognize him. He'd stayed to the side for the most part, letting Jack and Gwen do most of the talking, only popping up when he thought of something important that needed mentioning. For a brief moment, Ianto wondered if the Doctor had actually recognized him and remembered him, but he shot that thought down fast.

Ianto smiled, blushing a bit as he reached the Doctor. He wasn't used to being in the presence of someone so...important. Well, he supposed Jack was important, but Jack was Jack, and this was the Doctor. "Hello, sir," he said, the honorific slipping out again out of habit despite what the man had told him. He reached his hand out to shake the Doctor's. "Welcome to Cardiff. Though, I suppose you've already been here before, haven't you?"

The Doctor took Ianto's hand and shook it warmly, although he rolled his eyes a little when he heard that old honourific. Well, it could be worse, he supposed. At least the young man wasn't saluting him.

"Now, what did I say about calling me sir?" he said mock-sternly, but his eyes were twinkling and he grinned. "And yeah, now you mention it, I have been here before once or twice. Never quite with the blessing of Torchwood, though."

Ianto shrugged at being corrected. "Sorry," he said. "Although, when in doubt, it is better to be extra polite. At least, I've found that to be the case." It was the strategy that had gotten him into Torchwood in the first place, with his first job in the research department.

"Jack says you've never visited Torchwood Cardiff before," he said, stuffing his hands in his pockets, for lack of something better to do with them. "I think you'll find it's pretty different from Torchwood London. For one, there's no tower--it's all underground, for the most part."

He motioned toward the bay, to the stairs that he'd emerged from. "C'mon," he said. "I'm afraid we'll have to take the long route. I don't have controls for the invisible lift, and I'd hate to bother Jack to do it for us. He's actually working for once--I figure I'll get you settled with a coffee or something at least, before we interrupt him."
